Which 2005 hurricane impacted you the most

#1 Postby Jim Cantore » Sun Jan 29, 2006 12:54 pm

as in most damage, worst wind/rain, exc

I'm only listing ones that made landfall somewhere

For me it was ether Tammy or Cindy both whos remnents brough flooding rains to my area

I'll go with Cindy because she brought more rain and the rain she brought was exclusively from her remnents.

I would have to say Rita. I saw 40-45mph sustained and gusts to 60-65mph from her. Not the worst I have ever seen...but the worst this year for sure. Others that gave me a little effect would be Dennis in July. I was in Central Florida, but I still got 20-30mph winds and a few gusts to 40mph from some of his extreme outer bands. I also saw a few clouds and 10-15mph winds from the very outer cloud bands of Katrina in Houston in August (really you would not have noticed unless you looked on radar and realized it). I also got a few clouds/sprinkles and 20-25mph gusts from the first TS of the season in June (In Central FL). I think its name was Arlene?

the one in 2005. We are talking about 2005 storms on this thread. :D But yes, there are many arlenes in the past. If I were to mention all the storms I have ever been through, then I would have included Charley, Frances, Jeanne, Floyd, Gabrielle, Erin, etc, etc.

No question about it. I've experienced winds, rains, flooding from three: Cindy, Katrina, and Rita, and by FAR the worst exprience was Katrina. I've lost property, family, and only God knows how many years off my own life from this monster.

I would definitely say Rita. Extremeweatherguy and I went through pretty much the exact same conditions.

We got lots of rain and wind from Cindy's remnants. We also got Dennis' remnants, but it officially dissipated before it got to us, and Cindy was worse.

I have been affected by Arlene, Dennis, Katrina, and Wilma. Arlene brought some very strong winds on my cruise ship, Dennis was minor just a few branches down 40 mph gusts, Katrina brought TS winds here for a while, and Wilma of course was the worst with 80+ sustained and gusts to 110 or more.

Dennis, as his low pressure remnants sat over the Ohio valley for a week and churned out quite a few days worth of tornado watches around here, one tornado was about 10 miles south of here, think it was an F3, though I'm not positive.

After that, definately Cindy with torrential rain here, actually more than Dennis' storms brought.

No doubt for me. Rita's eye came right over us and our city was in hurricane level winds for nearly 8 hours. We were very fortunate to avoid the storm surge (by about 10 miles!) as we are less than 10 feet above sea level. The wind damage is/was incredible. Many tornadoes were spawned and it is easy to see where they were. It will be many years before we can approach pre-Rita conditions around here. Many people are still not able to return to their homes. It is amazing the little things we miss and may never again have. Many business people have had to call it quits, especially the Mom and Pop establishments. The upside is the creation of new businesses that have thrived and iare allowing young folks with some drive to get established in the business world.

In the lower FL Keys, Wilma was hands down the worst since Georges. Dennis caused some damage to my house with my help, but Wilma's surge devastated my yard on the ocean side which will cost more to repair than a window. However, I was lucky. Lots of people in the Keys had 40+ inches of saltwater come through their homes in Katrina. Katrina and Rita were exciting but not that powerful here fortunately.

BTW, we in the Keys for the past 5 years are very fortunate when you consider what most of the hurricanes that graze us do when they make their most devastating landfalls else where like Katrina, Ivan, Rita, etc.

thats quite a lineup compared to mine

Bob (no memory of)
Bertha (as a tropical storm)
Floyd
Isabel
Charley (as a 40mph TS. winds here maybe 5mph)

And the remnents of

Fran
Ivan
Jeanne

those are the ones that mattered condition wise

Katrina! I was at the Edgewater Mall in Biloxi Saturday. There was a expo of sorts and I stopped by the FEMA booth. They had updated surge maps. It turns out that water came within 100 yards of my house in Pass Christian. I don't have flood insurance. The nightmare of Katrina continues.....MGC

I wasn't really affected by any of them here in Orlando, but relatives of mine in Plantation, FL were affected by Katrina, and Wilma, but only in terms of inconvience.
