Do you agree that...
Do you agree that seaons with over 20 named storms should be called Super Seasons. That would mean that 1933(21) and 2005(27) where Super Seasons. Do you agree? If not what is a Super Season to you?
Do you think 2006 will be a Super Season?

Not again
Now I am getting concerned because I want to attend a mathematics conference in New Orleans in 2007 January. Or will they hold it there?

I'm sure it will be held in New Orleans. I think the only thing that will keep it from occurring would be another major storm. Let's keep our fingers crossed we have a safe 2006.

Calling the really bad seasons "Super Seasons" makes sense to me, but I'd base it on number of major hurricanes, number of landfalling tropical cyclones, and how bad the tropical cyclones were in terms of lives lost/property damage. Not sure exactly where I'd set the numbers but both 2004 and 2005 would qualify. I fear that 2006 will also qualify.

People are going crazy predicting or feeling that 2006 will be worse than 2005. Please give me any plausible situation where 2006 would be worst than 2005 and then tell me the odds of said situation happening.
I would think that you'd find them to be extremely low.
A storm that can beat Katrina is an extremely rare thing. Of all the storms that have existed in the last 100 or so years, only 1 has had the POTENTIAL to beat Katrina. None have come even close in reality.

THANK YOU!!!
For those who say 2005 was worse than 2004, open your eyes (though not trying to be offending). The chances of any random season worse than 2005 are extremely slim. The atmosphere changes very quickly. It could be worse, but don't fret about it. You really can't say for certain, can you.

Dr. Gray's/Dr. Klotzbach(sp?)'s predictions - those are just predictions. He overforecasted for 2002 season - predicting 14 named storms. Then El Nino came and his predictions crashed down to Earth. People usually start hyping after a big season. 2005, well, it's hard to overhype that. It was a freak event.
La Nina is over... it fueled 2005 but it will not fuel 2006 unless it reappears next winter. So if you say that is why you think it will be worse think again. La Nina's have never occurred for two consecutive years.

2005 smoked 1933. That says it all. I cannot imagine another season in my life time that will surpass or even equal 2005.

actually according to NOAA, La nina is forming and a weak La nina should be set up in time for spring and summer. I guess this year we will see back to back La ninas and it will probably allow for another active season.

Look at all the people said 05 was not going to as bad as 05. And now it could happen again. Although another katrinia is rare. The main reason katrinia caused so many death is beacause it ran through a city suseptible to hurricanes, really more than any other city on southeast coast.
We can have storms of this magnitude hit in Charleston sc or savannah, ga and not cause as much damge and life loss but will be anther katrinia because not of the destruction but of the wind, and pressure.
The only way to beat katrinias wrath is to put another and maybe worse storm over New Orleans.( Heaven Forbid

La Nina is already here. It could stay, but it would have to stay through next winter to have a profound effect on Hurricane Season 2006 (since La Nina affects mostly the previous season).
