Depends on how you want to count it. Andrew was Cat 5, but I was in an area which according to the reanalysis got upper-end Cat 3 winds. So I chose Cat 3.

Based on actual winds recorded in my area it would be CAT2. Based on the official strength of the storm it would Be CAT5 and CAT3.

Depending on who and/or which agency/orginazation is considering themselves to have the "officlal" word on storm categories, I've been through Camille and Katrina, and all others in between that impacted Biloxi. What was Katrina??? What was Camille???

There's so many options and opinions floating around, it's virtually impossible for me to say exactly.........

I have been in 3 or 4 Category 1 storms(Irene,Frances,Jeanne,Wilma). One of them(Wilma) could have brought Cat 2 conditions close by.

i covered all of the landfalls in 2004 and denis so a cat 4 is all i can do

I don't know at the airport close to my house in plant city they had winds that reached 108 mph...

For me, the storm in which I have experienced the highest winds (both sustained and gusts) ever so far has been Wilma. I think I experienced predominantly sustained Category One winds, occasional sustained Category Two winds, and gusts up into or near Category Three strength.

Strongest winds I've experienced in a hurricane was from Dennis.I was in central Santa Rosa county in the NE eyewall.I was getting cat 3 winds for about 10 minutes,it felt a lot like being in a tornado.

I got sustained cat 1 winds from Ivan with cat 2/3 gusts.The damage was far greater than Dennis becuase the winds lasted a longer time.

Yeah but those kind of gusts can occur in cat. 1/2 sustained winds...if it was cat. 3 conditions, then gusts probably would have hit 115-150+mph.

Officially you saw Cat. 2/3 sustained from Katrina and probably Cat. 3+ sustained from Camille. But unofficially it is hard to know for sure what they were at your exact location.

TS (Ex-Hurricane) Kate, 1985, Wilmington Island - Savannah, Georgia
Rita, 2005, The Woodlands/Houston
