Wind, waves, hurricane, sharks, capsizes... is this a movie?

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Wind, waves, hurricane, sharks, capsizes... is this a movie?

Happy New Year, everyone!

Did you hear about the Atlantic Rowing Race? Left Canary Islands on November 27, bound for Antigua, W.I. (Yes, through Hurricane Zeta!) It's beyond belief! I couldn't do better if I was writing an action thriller. Can't wait for the movie!! http://www.atlanticrowingrace.co.uk/

Yes, it's been pretty wild in both Carib and Atlantic this month, with rogue waves, gale-force winds, and high seas advisory boxes including the islands (that doesn't happen often!) the last several days; charter boats up on reefs, dangerous dingy conditions for sure, and the beach-goers haven't had much fun lately, either!! The only people who seem to be smiling are the surfers, though rather unresponsive to us mere civilians, sporting a glazed look in their eye, and many cuts and bruises.

Take a look at some swell where I live from a week ago. This was the NW swell, 6-8ft., as it began a week-long build to the REALLY big swell from the NE, up to 14' near shore, with rogues reported MUCH higher offshore!

Closeup of what was the beach - those are 30-40ft coconut palms!

Yesterday's High Wind/Seas graph. No, your eyes do not deceive you. I though it might be a mistake, too, when the first of several days of this began!

By the way, I wanted to ask this question...

What is this black area 20N 60-65W on wv loop? http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/GOES/EAST/CATL/WV_loop.html

If it is "wetter" air, how come it doesn't show on other wv images?

Here's a still:

The weather has been crazy for sure! But the last two days have been pretty perfect. Before that, our ferries were shut down, boats coming in to hide, plants stripped...now, if the front coming in this weekend would just shift off...please! 8-)
The cart has been opened/closed/open/close argh! But yesterday and today, BEAUTIFUL~~~
