Some hurricane related web sites

#1 Postby caribepr » Thu Jan 19, 2006 7:09 pm

These web sites are part of a *what's interesting on the web* email I get. Three of them are hurricane related and I thought they might be of interest to some here.
The Master of Disaster seems to be aimed more at businesses etc. but I think has some good guidelines for the personal homeowner/renter as well (the woman who sends out the list is a librarian, so there is a bit of a slant - the name of the newsletter is Neat New Stuff and if you are interested in subscribing - there is everything from science to art to the absurd to politics...oops, that may be the same! the address to subscribe is http://marylaine.com/subscrib.html )

GrantStation.com Gulf Coast Clearinghouse
http://www.grantstation.com/katrina/index.html
This one stop source for schools, libraries and other organizations
affected by the hurricanes includes Funding Updates, Government Updates,
corporations providing matching funds for employee donations, and
miscellaneous resources and reports.

Hurricanes Katrina & Rita Web Archive
http://websearch.archive.org/katrina/
"Internet Archive and many individual contributors created a comprehensive
list of websites documenting the historic devastation and massive relief
effort due to Hurricane Katrina. The sites were crawled between the dates
of September 4 - October 17th. This collection, containing more than 25
million searchable documents, will be preserved by Internet Archive with
access to historians, researchers, scholars and the general public."

The Master of Disaster
http://www.themasterofdisaster.com/
The damage to libraries during the hurricanes has inspired librarians to
rethink their disaster planning. Preparedness expert Jon Schultz offers a
"Beginner's Disaster Planning Site for Libraries, Businesses and
Institutions." At a bare minimum, check out his "One-Hour Emergency Plan"
and his "When Disaster Strikes" checklist.
