I take that to mean that he knows he's about to lose and that we are winning big time and should turn up the heat some more. He's starting to negotiate, the first sign of weakness
Well, I don't disagree about turning up the heat on him, although it's a little unclear how best to do that given the situation we've gotten ourselves into in the region.
I don't see any particular sign that he's "about to lose" though. I wouldn't mind being wrong about that, but it really doesn't look like it to me. As others have pointed out, he's mentioned the possibility of a truce before, but his conditions (if you really look at them) are completely unreasonable (we're not abandoning the region to him no matter what). So I conclude he's playing to his own audience, and pretty much figures he can use any reaction of ours to his advantage with that audience, no matter what we do.

The CIA has authenticated the voice on a tape played by al-Jazeera as Osama bin Laden, an agency official said.
The audio tape, played by the Arab network Al-Jazeera, was the first public communication from the terror group's leader since December 2004.
"Following technical analysis of the Osama bin Laden tape aired today, the CIA assesses that it was the voice of Osama bin Laden," said the agency official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to use their name.

Our troops get picked off a few at a time day by day, all the while support for teh war from home is declining rapidly. He recruits more terrorists than we kill. Acceptance of his request for a "truce" requires that we pull out completely from the Middle East, in which case he wins. If we decline his offer, he can use our failure to cooperate as a tool to recruit even more terrorists, in which case he also wins. This is a direct result of the administration's failure to capture bin laden before moving on to the next war and its failure to develop a feasible occupation plan for Iraq.

1. Keep the political out of it
2. How do you know he recruits more terrorists than we kill. Where do you get your numbers from?

Matt, stick with the weather your kinda good at that. Maybe, we should throw some hurricanes there way.

We can "possibly get blown off this planet" no matter what we do. Life is a gamble. One smart move would have been to avoid the Iraq war in the first place and concentrate on capturning Bin Laden. The Iraq War has created more terrorists and made the world, including us, less safe than we were before. In the meantime, I'd prefer not to turn the US into a giant prison camp.

No they where explorers that made America! It sounds like we should just disband America as a nation with no borders. Legals are welcome in will always be but ILLEGAL have no right to come into this country. We are in serious trouble if half the country doe's not look at America as a country any more.

Who said America is not a country? Who said to "disband America"? Building walls makes us more like the old East Germany than America. America is about freedom and opportunity, not walls.
You want to make the borders secure? So do I, but there's a better way than using walls that block us all in. The most logical way would be to give complete freedom to Mexicans and Canadians to enter the country, as long as they enter through official border crossings. The number of people coming across in the middle of nowhere will dwindle to nothing, making it easy to spot people trying to come in illegally. Mexicans don't want to kill us, they want to work to better their lives. Canadians don't want to kill us, they want to be tourists. Building walls will further isolate us from the world, and ultimately accelerate our decline as a nation.
