Quiet Southwest Indian Ocean?

#1 Postby HurricaneBill » Wed Jan 18, 2006 11:36 pm

The Southwest Indian Ocean basin seems rather quiet this season.

With the exception of Cyclone Bertie-Alvin, there have been no storms.

Are they expecting a quiet season? I know the SWIO tends to become more active around February, but usually they've had more storms form by now.

The last quiet season was 2000-2001. Only 5 named systems formed. However, all 5 became cyclones, 3 of them intense.
