I don't think so,it's pretty rare.But I would not rule out a brush by a T.S or weak hurricane.

I hope not for their sake. If they can fix the levee system in 2006 maybe the city might not flood as much, but I sure thats an impossible statement just -removed-.

This is a no brainer. OF COURSE IT WILL!

It might not be this year, but how many polls and discussions does it take to realize it will happen anyway.

I voted yes. Might be awhile before another major though. Then again the way last year was and this year is setting up, your guess is as good as mine. :D

New Orelans is sinking by the year anyway. So if one hits 10 years form now it may be alot worst.

Did anyone else see that Discovery Civilization Special on wrestling the Mississippi? Gotta feel sorry for folks down their. Between the River and the Gulf they are loosing ground pretty fast, not to mention elevation as you pointed out.

Good points. Many valuable barrier islands are shrinking or disappearing.

I have a really strong feeling that they will not. May be a TS or a weak Cat. 1 hurricane, but that's it. I would not be surprised if all N.O. got this year was outer bands of the storms heading towards TX. lol

It will be more than a disaster and I'm inclined to say "No," but its geographical position makes New Orleans each year to be one of the cities with the highest possibility of a hurricane landfall. Lets hope not!

dont take this the wrong way... but the NGOM is the best place for a major to hit as it will not cause much damage in a relative sense... sort of what we saw with Dennis. It will be a set back for the areas, but the overall impact will be less than if one crashes into Corpus Christi. This was evidenced in Frances and jeanne when the stronger Jeanne caaused less damage than Frances as Jeanne hit an already devastated region

I don't take it the wrong way, but that's a ridiculous statement to make. Try telling that to the people of Plaquemines, St Bernard, Jefferson, St Tammany and Eastern Orleans Parishes plus Hancock, Harrison and Jackson Counties. I'm not even going to include New Orleans proper.

That maybe true for certain small areas of the coastline that are sparsely populated.

I was reading a report that said that New orleans in the area's around it are going to be part of the Gulf. I don't went to start this discussion again. But a Major hurricane will get worst through time for the northern Gulf coast.
