The only satisfaction I will get will be seeing this thread locked.

I think we should have a prayer to help get this thread locked.

What's wrong with conversations among adults about our ideas? No one has ever been hurt by the free interchange of ideas. Since no one has violated the Terms of Service I cannot see how a rational decision could be made to lock the thread. I grant that the administrators have a right to do whatever they want with anything on this board, I just don't see how users can insult those who have been discussing calmly big issues by saying that because they disagree that we have no right to voice our opinion.

locking this thread does nothing. If you can't post anything than why lock it?

Then why have an anti-politics clause here at the site?? Why favor one (in this case religion) over politics...?

BTW...seperation of church and state is political.

This thread has nothing to do with politics. It is a very spirited thread.

The thread is ok in the discussions so far about the theme of the thread.Let's continue this way and all will run smoothly here.I know that religion is a hot issue same as politics so let's try to be good one to another here and not go personal or stray into politics.

The reason why you will never have the Bible taught in schools because it is more skewed to Christian views and that is why it will never be taught or at least shouldn't be taught.

I'm intermittently reading a book aobut the foundations of western civilization and even from this very scholarly and evenhanded book, the author went on about the contributions of the "cult of Jehovah" i.e. the Jews to western thought. Also, the part that early christianity played in the evolution of the Roman Empire, the unification of Midieval Europe, the various twists and intrigue that played out over the centuries is fascinating. All this stuff can be read from a perspective of inquiry, wholly separate from one's own personal perspective (which I'm not even getting into here). There's so much to learn about. So little time!

OK... sorry for being rude about locking the thread... it can still be an excellent and outstanding thread if used properly!

Open and civil debate is always a good thing. As long as we remain civil to one another, there is no reason to lock the thread.

I agree! That is all I was trying to say. It is a great thread if discussion within it is good and open.

Whats the book?

And I'm reminded every day of how little I know, especially on weekends where I have academic team competitions. One of the better epiphanies in my life was when I realized that what I knew was very limited and the best way to learn was to decide what I didn't know and dive into it.

Because the former is science, the latter is religion.

So it's okay to teach that the world "evolved" but not that it was "created"?

It is fine at a church or a religious school...

Then evolution should be kept in a separate arena!!

No. Don't you believe we came from monkeys??

Monkeys or dirt that is the question..
