Indeed. They had an awesome and completely effective plan for ths initial invasion, but they apparently had no plan whatsoever for the occupation.

I think part of the problem is that we thought the Iraq military would fight longer and basically we would have taken the out then... Instead the surrender quickly and now we are fighting the a few at a time...

Ok folks aparently the discussion is straying to another countrie (Iraq) that is not Iran.Let's focus on Iran and what may happen and may not occur in this Nuclear standoff.

If Iran's nuclear facilities are scattered and underground bombing them is easier said than done.

trying not to be political here

what a time for a surprise attack by the USA on the plants, much like Israel's attack on Iran's during 1981. They would never suspect that we would go in this early

Yes I guess we would not need any U.N. meeting on the subject if the plants were destoryed already...Save everyone a bunch of time...

Possible, though I don't think we have enough intel yet. In fact I'd be willing to bet that we are getting better intel from the Mossad and the Mestada in particular, then our own sources.

Call me crazy, but I think Israel will dictate our future movements.

I have no doubt we could successfully set them back a number of years, whether we attack now or at pretty much any time prior to them getting the needed amount of weapons grade material.

The question is, what would the consequences be in terms of our situation in Iraq? Iran is operating pretty freely across that border (at least in the south) and they are close with the dominant Shi'a factions. So hostilites with Iran makes our position there much worse.

By AMY TEIBEL
Associated Press Writer

JERUSALEM

Israel on Friday urged the international community to threaten Iran with sanctions if it doesn't abandon its nuclear ambitions, following new threats from Tehran to block U.N. inspections of its atomic sites.

Israeli officials said they remain hopeful that diplomacy can end the crisis, but they warned a military strike led by others against Iranian nuclear facilities may be necessary.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said the Iranian regime should be presented with a clear choice: "Either they totally cease their nuclear weapons program or they endanger their relationships with the entire organized international community."

"We believe the combination of fanatical ideology together with nuclear weaponry is a combination that no thinking person can feel comfortable with," Regev added.

Above is a Press release that Israel made about the Iran Standoff and AP just made public.

Oh yeah we can. Every time we attack, we do their recruiting for them. The ranks of Al'Quaeda swell whenever we move militarily against a muslim nation.

No matter what we do, the extremists will always hate us. It's a no-win situation when it comes to a faction that believes that we are evil and need to be destroyed.
