Even if Stan killed "only" 80 people, he's going to get retired. Hurricane Cesar was retired, and he only killed 51.

My Recommendation for the retired names:

Dennis: Drake -or- Don
Emily: Elizabeth -or- Ellen
Katrina: Kylie -or- Katelyn
Rita: Rachel -or- Robin
Stan: Scott -or- Stephen
Wilma: Whitney -or- Wanada

If nessacary:
Ophelia: Odessa -or- Ona

I wish that the NHC would actually look at all of these suggestions, and then decide. As the general public, we should have the opportunity to name our hurricanes!

Answering a question posed a few pages earlier, the WMO Committee that is charged with retiring names (among other things). will be meeting in San Juan, Puerto Rico from March 30 to April 4.

I guess they prefer not to use pre-1979 names for some odd reason.

When Laura (a name used in 1971) was selected to replace Lili, some felt it shouldn't be used. The name was retracted and a new name would be selected a year later.

Well, a year later, they selected........Laura.

Plus, they had already replaced a retired name with a pre-1979 name. Diana (1990) had been replaced with Dolly.

But anyways, if they don't want to use pre-1979 names, you can count these out:

Edith (1955, 1959, 1963, 1967, 1971)
Ethel (1956, 1960, 1964)
Esther (1957, 1961)
Ella (1958, 1962, 1966, 1970, 1978)
Eve (1969)
Ellen (1973)
Elaine (1974)
Emmy (1976)
Evelyn (1977)

Katie (1955)
Kara (1969)
Kristy (1971) (now an EPAC name)
Kendra (1978)
