A Canadian Writer and good friend of mine by the name of Dee Van Dyk is looking for stories about past hurricane experiences. If you are interested in telling your story and possibly being PUBLISHED in a book then click here for more information!

Dee is a great person and she has interviewed me for another book about Katrina (it will be released with the book she is currently working on). So this is LEGIT and she is a woman of her word as well as a great person to talk to on the phone! I know she interviewed me for over 2 hours...my fault I can't shut up when it comes to weather!

I have a hurricane experience. Hurricane Andrew. We evacuated for Katrina, so I did not actually experience it. And I was not born for Betsy, but my parents were in the eyewall of Betsy. I would rather write it though. I don't feel comfortable talking to a total stranger on the phone for an hour. And I am not much of a phone person at all.

Hurricane David when I was in elementary school in Jacksonville FL, Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Jeanne when they went through Orlando in 2004.

Looking back, from my perspective, Charley was worst for the 5 days without power and having all my food in the refrigerator spoil. Could have been a lot worse though.

Our power was out 8-9 days with Charley and tons of trees down, Frances power was out 4 days, and with Jeanne we almost made it through with power till a oak fell on our power pole and blocked us in our fenced in yard, it was out for only 3 days.

I have been thru Hurrican Donna, and many others, the last ones being Charley Frances, and Jeanne. I was a child when Donna came thru and have many memories of the aftermath of it.

Power flickered a few times during Frances but didn't go out (though cable did go out for a couple of days so no TV and no Internet), power flickered several times during Jeanne and actually went out for a few hours.

well, go figure that there are NO Eastern NC hurricanes... I have some storys on Hurricane Isabel and Ophelia, but no one seems to think they were that bad...

In Havelock, at my house I got a pressure reading of 994.3 Millibars and picked up 6.75 inches of rain The pressure could have been lower though, as my weather station was only recording at the top of each hour, so it was probably closer to 994.0 Millibars. I also estimated wind speeds around 50-55 sustained and gusts up to 65-70 MPH, interesting that a weather station about 2 miles North of me recorded a gust to 75 MPH, so my estimate was not half bad... We had alot of damage, more than Isabel here, and the surge was pretty bad, not like in Katrina or Wilma, but Carteret County, just south of me, did receive some hefty damage from the surge, and so did portions of my county...

I know...lol, any other year though and that would of been right up there with the rest of the hurricanes... I really don't remember the media grabbing onto Ophelia like they did with Isabel, mainly because of the local, state, and national gov't playing the blame game over Katrina...

Refering to my above post, when I said no Eastern NC hurricanes, I don't mean that in a bad way... It means we have been "lucky" that a big one, like a Katrina or Andrew, hasn't hit. I'm just stating that those people just east of me by about 10 miles or so think they were big, alot of them lost their homes due to the surge in Isabel, and some of my family members in central Va went without power for a couple of weeks from a "weak" hurricane, well, 70 MPH T.S....
