2006 storm track predictions

#1 Postby Ivanhater » Sun Jan 01, 2006 12:35 pm

there has been a lot of talk about how many storms there will be in 2006 but this thread can be devoted to predictions on track....by the way is it to early to say if there will be a strong bermuda high or if an east coast trough will set up?

feel free to make maps on track predictions

I think it will be like a strong Bermuda high similar to 2004, but its too early to tell.

Florida Again will be the PLAYER with at least 5 hits. 2 Tropical Storms, 3 Hurricanes and one of them a MAJOR!!! (end of July) Just my opinion.

Cape Verde region was UNTOUCHED in 2005! Those waters are hot
and explosive for 2006...so we will see severe cape verde season
IMO...biggest threat to the US East Coast from Florida, Georgia,
Carolinas, Virginia

I don't see a change in the pattern. Same old stuff just continuing from 2005.

Gulf will be hot again but in that case anybody is at risk.

If this season is anything like 2004 or 2005 I think the central Gulf coast (SE LA to FL panhandle) is in for another devastating year.

My area has dodged bullets since 1921 (the last time a major
hurricane struck Tampa Bay), with the exception of tropical
storms and category 1 hurricanes. Hopefully our luck will not
run out in 2006.

The red zone: Melbourne to Ocean City, MD.

CV storms will be 55% of the season, compared to this year's 3.3333...%

I don't think the percentage will be that drastic, but it sure looks like the CV season will happen this coming year. If it does, that will definitely put both the Islands and the East Coast more at risk. Even though I do not think the season will be as active as this year I do think it will be what is considered well above average. I think the big difference will be that the East Coast will recieve at least a couple of hits as compared to the "brushes" it recieved in 2005. And yes I do know how strong Ophelia was and that she al but made an "official" hit. Texas got a hit with Rita in 2005. It is quite possible we will get more this year, but I have nothing to base that on yet.

Just a gut feeling but I think Florida up thru the Delmarva will be at high risk this year with eastern NC being at highest risk. I expect a moderate risk for the lower Texas coast and a low to moderate risk along to upper Texas coast to the Florida Panhandle with the rest of Florida in the aforementioned high risk area. At least one and possibly 2 major hurricanes will hit the southeast and mid atlantic states.

Houston has really dodged a bullet since 1983 (Alicia). I think it is next to take a hit. In 2004 most of the storms stayed towards Florida and the eastern Gulf. In 2005 most storms sturck the central Gulf. So if the trend coninues, then the western Gulf will be in for a rough 2006.

I think Florida and the Gulf will see 2-3 more hurricanes

I get the feeling we'll see a storm run up the east coast though like a Floyd

Have a feeling that Florida will get hit again. Have another gut feeling that a hurricane will hit around Labor Day weekend around Morgan City, LA. Another Andrew type scenerio. South Florida-then SE LA. I predicted Katrina and Rita almost a month or so in advance. I had predicted a major hurricane would hit Louisiana between the 40th anniversary of Betsy and the 13th anniversary of Andrew. Andrew hit August 26th in Louisiana and Betsy Sept 9th. Katrina hit August 29th. I hit it almost on the nail. I also predicted Katrina to become a 5. And predicted the landfall from almost the minute she became a cane. Predicted 1st landfall around Ft. Lauderdale, then second landfall just east of Grand Isle. She did hit just east of Grand Isle. Buras to be exact.

I also nailed Rita. Everyone kept saying Galveston. I did not listen and stuck to my original prediction of a landfall on the Tx/LA border. And I was right.
