Record Dry May...

So far, rainfall for the month of May has only been .01" in Beaumont. The driest May on record was 0.10" in 1978. It appears that we unfortunately will have a good chance of setting a new record this year.

Yes its dry here. Southerngale - its so dry here in Baytown, I am having to water my garden everyday. Don't see any relief in site. And no tropic system either, so we will exit May and move into June praying for more rain.

Southerngale and Ticka - if I could, I would send the rain to you that my area is supposed to be getting tonight and tomorrow. We certainly don't need it.

Ticka and southerngale, it looks like we have a decent shot of getting rain sunday and monday. Hopefully it pans out because if not alot of placest will have their driest may ever!

Josh, we'll eventually get rain, and I'd be willing to bet that Mother Nature will try to make up for this drought all at once. It usually happens that way. :roll:

Maybe not though...it seems like we're never going to get rain. :o

ticka and PTrackerLA...I don't know about your local forecast, but our mets are saying only a slight chance of an isolated shower or thunderstorm possible Sunday and early Monday. In other words, I likely won't see a drop!!

southerngale, eventually the pattern will break down and we will begin to see our "summertime" rains but until then our only hope for rain is with cold fronts approaching the area and the last few chances have not panned out. BTW, we heavily water our lawn and garden on wednesday and today the grass was parched again! I can't take this any longer, it has to RAIN!!! We live on the Gulf coast for Gods sake!

We usually fall into the drought pattern in late July, here.
I've seen the dog walk across the yard and literally kick
up dust! And, you know it's dry when even the weeds
start dying! :o

Its dry and for me there's not a cloud in sight either. Its hot and dry.

I am really getting upset with my garden - you put so much work into it and I am watering as much as I can - and its still not enough. I am getting a few green beans - and there are tomatoes on the vines - but if it doesn't rain so - they will all burn up and I'll have nothing for all the work I have done.

Enough venting - need to do my raindance.

Not much chance of rain here for at least a week!! PT UR right that our best chance is Sun. into MOn., but at this point I don't see much chance, nor do our local OCM's. :cry:

Just a little update...

We saw a few showers pop up on local radar but we didn't get a drop of rain here. None in the Golden Triangle. It stayed to our north.

We have another slight chance early Tuesday morning before drier air works in again.

We need rain!!

Well your chances for rain should increase as the week goes this is especially true from the upper TX coast east...........I sure hope you get some..........And you can have some of mine if you like..............

The ground is cracking.

Where do you see our rain chances increasing? Our local forecast says that after our slight chance Tuesday morning (yeah, right!), we don't have another chance for the rest of the week.

I'm in extreme Southeast Texas....between Houston and Lake Charles.

Well we didn't get one drop of rain. Had lightning in the distance and dark clouds popped up during Girl Scout party - but no rain. Its been since April 7 since we have had any rain. Folks that's been awhile.

Had hubby wash the car - but still no rain. The local met says today we have a 40% chance and then next Sunday another possible chance of rain. Goodbye yard.

Well i am taking into account such things as hpc, model input, and several others............I will mention that as of now the models have changed slightly and there is a intrusting little feature in the bay of campeche that has flared up which is shown well over in the tropics forun under Cycloneye thread about it...........More or less areas further south along the TX coast now has a better shot at some long awaited rain...........I still see no reason to change your chances for rain just yet...............But i figured i would mention what i am basing my forecast on and the other things i just mentioned above for obvious reason.

...........Either way you do have a shot at some rain this week into the weekend and hopefully you will get it along with everyone else here that lives in that part of TX.............I will say that right now hpc has your area getting between .50 to .75 of rain in its 5day qpf............Not much but i am sure any little bit would help................And check back in here and my other thread for further updates as the week goes............

I hope it pans out too. Any amount is better than nothing. Most of the year, even through the winter, my yard rarely even got to dry out before the next round of rain came. It was almost always wet. There's one area in the front that is usually at least soft and mushy when it's not a "lake" - that area is now so dry it is cracked. Speaking of cracked ground, in case you missed it in the "Sittin' on the Front Porch' thread, I sprained my ankle Sunday at a picnic. We were playing volleyball and I jumped up to spike the ball over and when I came down, I landed in a huge crack in the ground. Ouch!

Anyway, it looked like mini-earthquakes all over the place the way the ground was cracked. This is very unusual for this area!!

Well, I'm going to check out the Bay of Campeche feature now. Let's hope it brings us a foot of rain! :roll:
