Bye-Bye, Christmas!
This morning, I jumped up, drank my coffee, realized
that my eyes were OPEN, and, bailed in to take the
Christmas decorations down! LOL, I've been looking at
them since Thanksgiving, and, now, my house is back
in order. I go back to work, tomorrow, and, didn't want
to wait until next weekend to do it.
Anyone else pull their sparkly decor, today?

Amy, I'll bet Christmas with your five-year-old was pure delight!
Gee, Annette, would you like to come down to Boynton Beach and give me a hand?
I'll probably wait until Saturday to start the de-construction: (a) I didn't finish decorating until 12/15 and (b)my sister from MN will be staying through Friday.
I have decorations on both floors of the house (12 rooms and 3 hallways), the pool/patio area, the front flowerbeds, four palms, one lonely tree that Wilma didn't decimate, and front lawn.
This is one of my least favorite household tasks. The house always looks so empty afterwards!

All will be put away by the weekend. Both Kathy and I were at work today...went out for dinner tonight as the last hurrah of Christmas...and will dismantle the reds and greens throughout the week.
We will be attending a New Year's party at a friends home, so no need to look festive any longer.
I'm with you, Annette....after Christmas it is time.
Now does anyone have a hint on how to get that four-part fake Christmas tree back in the box it came in? Geez, looks to me like only two of the four pieces have a chance of making it!

Are you kidding? With 3 kids and all the stuff they get with the big family we have, it takes 2-3 days to get all their stuff unpackaged and put away. My goal is to have all the decorations took down by next weekend. But we have a ton, it took 5 days to get it all up, I hope it only takes 3 to get it all down.
Hey Dee Bee I do know what you mean about the house looking empty after its all put away, your eyes get so used to looking at all the stuff, that whens its gone its kinda a shock to the eyes. Now that its all over the sooner the decorations come down the better. I used to leave them up till the 1st, because I heard it was good luck to do so. But not the past 3 or 4 years I can't take it anymore, I want my house back. lol.

I just took my tree down(5 minutes ago I got done)... I was going to tomorrow but I'm bored tonight. There's nothing on TV.
I didn't even have the lights on at all today. I'm sad in a way... but I'm not one who keeps the decorations up for days after Christmas. Once it's over, it's over.
Now about the box the tree is in... well, that's going out to the building in the yard tomorrow.
Oh and I just realized how dark my room is now with no Christmas lights. It sucks, but I'll get used to it... again.

Squeeeeeeze, Poppysky, squeeeeeeze! And,
jumping up and down on the box isn't out of the question,
either!

Dee Bee, I'd love to run down and help you, dear, but, I'd
better get myself ready for work, tomorrow - I'll won't be
able to see the bottom of my desk for the stacked-up
paperwork and call-back messages after being off for four
days!

We'll probably take down our stuff next weekend - New Years.
All the preparations, all the planning, all the work...........was worth it, but it's a relief when it's over.
We still have a couple gifts to unpackage and set up. Nothing broken or lost yet. The kids are back to being a bunch of wild indians running around the house.
We'll be back to abnormal pretty fast!

My stuff will be up until Jan. 2nd or 3rd. What usually gets me packing it all up is the cut off date to recycle fresh xmas trees. From there I begin boxing it up.
This year I suggested we box it all up better. Keeping decorations we want to display. Some of it can be passed on (not cute things my girls did in pre-school but rather purchases I made and later thought, why did I buy that?) and the rest can be better organized. Room by room. Which would make next Christmas season easier to decorate - just pull it out as I decorate each room.
We'll see if that happens!
Right now I'd like to do a decent grocery shop and stock the fridge/freezer and food cupboards. I kept shopping for specific items for our party or to take to family get togethers. Now I need things to return to normal!

Big debate in our home about it...I want to leave it up till Little Christmas, the hubby wants to start taking it down now. Told him I'll compromise and we can start after the Mummers Day Parade (trying to get him to go to the parade to see his buddies, he used to march, but since his hospital stay he's been a little leary of going anywhere)

We always take our stuff down on January 1, although with highs near 70 today it is tempting to take the lights down outside today. We always light them back up on New Year's Eve one final time when we have people over so I guess we will wait!
