This story breaks my heart. I know it's not a person, and I'm grateful no one lost their life, but I'm also a dog lover now. It would break my heart to watch someone just shoot my dog. Doesn't even sound like the dog was attacking.

Police are looking for two armed robbers who shot a store owner's dog during a robbery Monday night.
It happened around 10 p.m. at Wrigley's Market on Findlay Street in Over-The-Rhine.
Surveillance video shows the pair during the robbery.
The 52-year-old owner watched as one of the robbers shot her ten-year-old Akita, named Salam, in the neck.
The young suspects got some cash and took off running.
Salem was paralyzed and the owner had to put him to sleep.

I hope those robbers are punished to the fullest extent of the law. If there are additional charges that can be made in court against the robbers because of what they did to the dog, then the charges should be brought.
Even if the dog attacked them, they had NO RIGHT to harm so much as 1 hair on that dog's body. When people commit crimes, they have no claim of self defense whatsoever and anyone (human or animal) they kill or harm during the commission of the crime should be grounds for additonal charges, and additional punishment, CONSECUTIVE, to the initial crime committed.

More on the story. A stray bullet was found and was possibly intended for the other dog.

Poor dog.
I lost my dog shortly after I returned to the area after Hurricane Rita. She was out playing with her neighborhood dog friends for a bit (she stayed inside most of the time) when some idiot was FLYING down the road and ran over her. It's a residential area and could have been a kid. Dogs and kids are always out playing on this "no outlet" street outside the city limits. He was speeding excessively. She died October 18th.
As to the robber, lock him up forever. If we had tougher laws, maybe we'd have less crime. What kind of warped mentality leads a person to believe that they deserve to take something from someone else, that they haven't worked for, but someone else did? Pathetic humans.
