Running Silent, Running Deep, At The Holidays
With the holidays on our doorstep, I thought it appropriate to come up from sea bottom and wave my hands in the air from the open hatch. I wave for good wishes, warm greetings, and salutes of appreciation to all of you here at S2k.
I’ve run silent and run deep much of 2005, but there is hardly a day that I do not go “up periscope” to check in on my friends here, to see the new faces, or to capture the excitement on the weather threads themselves.
Whether it is a lake effect snow event or a hurricane of major proportion, I find that the heart of S2k is alive and well. It pumps lifeblood and enthusiasm for the sky to all corners of the world, and for that I bow to Marshall and the crew, to the moderators, too, who make it all happen day in and day out.
Off Topic is a mainstay for me. It’s a barometer, a litmus test, for how folks are doing, who needs a lift, and who has something wonderful to celebrate. A day without checking in is like a day without a friend. Like a day without the warmth of the sun.
We know not what the holidays will bring…and more uncertainly still about this new year, 2006.
Still, let it be said that while running both silent and deep, the depth of significance among those who reside here…who call it home away from home, has not diminished. I say that of myself, but surely it is the same with many others.
Kathy and I wish you the best of holidays and thank you sincerely for cards and emails and words of goodwill.
May the blessings of friendships carved from the wonders of the sky continue to sustain themselves in the new year.
There is nothing more valuable than a real friendship, you know.
And as we see over and over again, they can grow and thrive right here.
Steve

MERRY CHRISTMAS Steve & Kathy!
This is truly like a second home here. Real life does tend to interfere with our daily checkins, but also with our own flesh and blood families as well. Before you know it, it's been a month or so before you've checked in with someone, but that's mainly because we're busy with the details of day to day living.

I know of no other weather board that meets all five of these criteria.
a) Up-to-date and accessible weather information and data.
b) Committed involvement of weather professionals
c) Community forums on current weather topics
d) Encouraged involvement on more personal levels
e) Leadership and ownership that takes pride not in the quantity of membership and posts, but the quality of membership and posts.
And for that, we can all be appreciative at Christmas and beyond.

Indeed, Steve...and, what other weather site boasts its own bar, offers timely notices about its sick, its pets, or accepts entreaties for prayer?
Yes, Storm2K is in a class by itself...and you are one of the reasons we ARE.
