Nagin: Mardi Gras businesses should pay for evacuee's return

I just don't know what to say. nola.com

Nagin: Mardi Gras businesses should pay for evacuee's return

Mayor Ray Nagin today confirmed his support for Mardi Gras 2006, but added that he wants businesses who profit from Carnival to put 25 percent of this year's proceeds into a fund to help repatriate New Orleans evacuees stranded across the country.

The mayor's comments - at the end of a press conference to announce the creation of a 'musician's village' to house and support New Orleans-area musicians - came after a question about an upcoming protest March in Atlanta against celebrating Mardi Gras.

Yeah - if Nagin doesn't get his constintuency back, he's almost a sure bet to loose the next election - no matter how long it's delayed... No doubt, getting the evacuees back in town is definitely in his best interest.

I have to disagree with him. I think Nagin needs to wake up and smell the coffee. I am assuming that those businesses lost a lot during Katrina and probably don't have the extra money.

Wow. Nagin is showing some socialist leanings. I'm not sure he has thought this through......

I use to be a Nagin supporter at the onset of his mayoral term. But, his and Blanco's handeling of the Katrina fisaco has made me relize how inept they are. This just adds icing to the cake. Why not suggest that bussiness adopt a Katrina evacuee and support them or some other kooky concept......MGC
