Small town about 10 miles south of me may get help from ABC's Extreme Makeover. The school is closed right now with the kids sharing Abbeville High School. The Erath students attend school all day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The next week they attend on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Abbeville HS students attend on the other days.

School hopes for makeover

A popular reality television show could be making a visit to Vermilion Parish.
Francis Touchet, principal at Erath High School, said he has been in contact with producers of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition about coming to the town and helping rebuild the school, which sustained significant damage during Hurricane Rita. The school has been sharing facilities with Abbeville High School since September.
Touchet said he has been in steady contact with the show's producers and has sent them photos of damage to the school. Although nothing is definite, Touchet said he is keeping his fingers crossed.
"I'm being cautiously optimistic," Touchet said. "It's an honor to even be considered. I think it would be great for the whole community."
The show features a team of designers, contractors and volunteers who renovate homes for struggling families. Hundreds of people work around the clock for seven days to create state-of-the-art homes, complete with landscaping.
Although the show normally features renovations of family homes, the show's family casting director, Charisse Simonian, said producers are planning four one-hour specials on hurricane-damaged areas. Touchet said he thinks the show will air the special episodes this February.
Simonian had no further information about the possibility of the show filming in Erath.
Touchet said if the school is chosen for the show, producers could visit the area within the next couple of weeks.
