This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Don't count on 2005 repeating every year, it's an anomoly. That said, Chris does sound particularly threatening, perhaps for Texas in early to mid August. Florence sounds like a bad east coast hurricane. I don't see any other big ones that threaten land in that list.

If I were an organized and creative tech person, I'd figure out how to make this one make bells and whistles ring July 27th (in all due respect, and hoping you are right!) :D

Good, I hope that you remember my post! I think it's easy to get caught up in the "2005 had 26 storms so why won't 2006?" fervor. But 2005 was very unusual in one respect - there was a constant monsoonal-type trof that set up across the central Caribbean this season. It's a similar set up to what is found in the western Pacific, and that's why the West Pac gets a ton of named storms. We could see the trof there in early May, and we advised our customers that June and July were likely going to be more active than normal. In 2004 the same area was dominated by quite strong high pressure, and every early disturbance slammed into South America and died before August (more normal).

So you cannot assume that this monsoonal trof will remain in the Caribbean through the winter and spring. The PDO continues to switch toward a cold cycle, and this will likely mean a stronger Bermuda high in seasons to come. A stronger Bermuda high means stronger trade winds and less hurricane activity.

A lot of people are saying Debby.
Wow, the 2006 names suck.
Beryl, they actually use that name? I just thought it was a "freak" name for my Grandma Beryl.

Alberto (sounds like a shampoo)
Ernesto (that name just needs to be retired)
Florence (huh)
Sandy (wasn't she off Grease?)

If we go that far, Sandy may not be a pretty storm either (since I just saw the list). Oscar and Kirk sound bad too.

All in all, my final predictions are that these storms will be bad-

Even though it's not scientific in anyway, it is fun to speculate and it was scary to see how accurate some people can be

Alberto, Debby, Helene, Isaac, and Leslie all stand out at me, personally. I don't think all of them will be that bad though.
