Sets of Average Seasons

#1 Postby quandary » Tue Nov 29, 2005 2:47 pm

With 26 named storms and 29 cyclones, the 2005 season has nearly tripled the average, which would be 30 (10x3) named storms. Anyone have any sets of 10 (or any other number of storms) which would consistite a normal season as as subset of the storms in 2005 that are particularly interesting? For me, it is interesting to note that from June to very early August, when we got up to Irene, we basically had one entire season.

Also, after the season was declared dead many times in late September, the set from there on to the present is 9 storms, from Stan to Epsilon, which would also constitute a full season. In fact, each of these sets has the right number of TS and Major Hurricanes (9 and 2) to be considered average. The first set had very few hurricanes while the October set had 4 hurricanes, which is pretty close to average. The middle set, from Jose to Rita, has 8 storms, but a huge number of hurricanes, Katrina, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Rita and Phillipe.
