Will The Florida Hits/Impacts Continue Next Year?

#1 Postby MiamiensisWx » Wed Nov 23, 2005 7:17 pm

Unfortunately, I have to be honest and say yes, based on the way patterns are going. It looks like the Florida hits by storms will continue in 2006.

Will another storm or storms impact or hit Florida next year? Thoughts, comments, and votes are welcome!

Even that I believe is very possible this streak will continue, I will be conservative and say that it's too early to tell.

I want to say no, but I have a sinking feeling I'd be wrong. However, I very much hope I am wrong, and we won't.

I voted to early to tell because we dont know 6 months back from the start of the 2006 season how the pattern will be starting with how the bermuda high will be oriented and how strong will be.

They'll get at least a tropical storm. That's pretty much a given.

Yes, FL will still get them, I do not believe there are more than 1 or 2 years in the past 200 where FL has not recieved some hit/effect from a TC, but I definately believe there will be an shift in activity to the Atlantic seaboard, and yes, that does still include FL.

It really depends on how the dominant weather patterns set up for next summer, in which there is little to no skill forecasting this far out. The question that's up in the air is whether we'll get any anomalous ridging over the east coast like we did this year and last year. Statistically, there's a very low probability of getting three years in a row of "bad luck."

I will hold my prediction until at least april or may of 2006. However, my prediction for this year and New Orleans was dead on.

I voted yes and this is why. We dodged the bullet this season but next June through August, I fear the steering patterns and warm Gulf temps will expose the panhandle and West Coast of Florida to at least 2 early season hits.

Then, God only knows what will happen in October.

for the Miami area, what really matters is how strong the EC trough is, since most of our hits do not come from the east, but from the south. I'd love a strong Bermuda high... drive everything south of me

Florida dodged a bullet? We only had as many hurricanes this year as we had last year, and had more damage this time around (yes, it was primarily from Wilma alone... though Dennis and Katrina sure did cause billions in the state)
