OPINION OF BOCAGIRL-NOT AN OFFICIAL FORECAST!
As it stands right now (Saturday morning) Gamma is going to bring South Florida wet, windy, in-your-face nasty weather. Minimal T.S. winds that will cause some blowing debris and might make things more of a mess than they already are. Not fun, and not a walk in the park, but not the end of the world. We can do this, fellow South Floridians. We can do this.
Lighten up folks. Gamma is going to be a pain. BUT. She ain't Wilma.
As for 2006 - my unscientific opinion - let's worry about it later.

Boca Girl I think you are on target....lots of winds and rain but no Wilma for sure....but let's just sit back and think about the following:
1) Gamma will impact S. Florida Thanksgiving week, very late in the season
2) We are on Gamma
3) S. Florida will be impacted by 3 A storms this year: Katrina, Wilma, Gamma: I vote Gamma a female to follow suit
4) S. Florida is still recovering from Wilma

Errr, with all due respect Chris, am I missing something here? We can't change any of the points you made, we can only go forward. We live in Boca Raton, a coastal city that has the potential to be hit by hurricanes. That's a given. And while Gamma looks like it is going to bring us some nasty weather, the storm doesn't merit "the sky is falling, the sky is falling" attitude that I see in so many posts.
One more thing....not clear what you meant by the comment "S. Florida will be impacted by 3 A storms this year: Katrina, Wilma, Gamma: I vote Gamma a female to follow suit".....the way I read it, it almost sounded like you WANTED Gamma to come in with the intensity of Katrina or Wilma. Surely I got that wrong?
Reply isn't necessary. I'm off with the Fire Department the rest of the day. Chris you are welcome to learn about CERT anytime. PM me for details.

Good post, Barb. I think that probably puts everything into perspective. If the models nudge a little further south we may not even feel those effects. It would be great for Recurve and his friends in the Keys to avoid the "in your face nasty" weather as well.
If I don't post again before then (and even if I do), HAPPY THANKSGIVING, to all my board buddies!
