arizonasooner... how do you like Bellingham overall??

I love Bellingham... Been working there on and off for the last 10 years... It's probably my favorite work location...

Just got back to PHX Friday night... Went camping last night at Lake Pleasant - overnight low was in the upper 40's... Didn't seem too bad after a couple weeks in the Pacific NW!!

It has definitely been cold up here lately.

November is not our best month.

April - October are typically beautiful though. I like the winters up here very much as long as we do not get into a extended period of constant rain.

It can be rainy but as long as there are sunny breaks and lots of mountain snow... I am happy as can be!!

Good to see you posting again TT-SEA! We've missed you.

Well, I'm transfering to the UW a little sooner than I planned...this upcoming Winter quarter. I decided to apply just for the heck of it, and miraculously I made it. I'm gonna miss Spokane, but I can't pass up this opportunity to follow my dream. So I'll be returning to Seattle Xmas break and will be attending the UW.

As for weather, it's been crazy! I'm almost ready for a little break. Models continue this zonal flow for the forseeable future which should be great news for the mountain passes...they need all the snow they can get!

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry for the lack of updates but school's keeping me busy...and now getting things ready to transfer is only making things worse.

By the way, you should head over to Old Farmer's Almanac...alot more activity.

Cloud9, snow_wizzard is still posting on other boards, but I'm not sure if he is going to return to this one.

I'm really surprised by the lack of activity on this thread...we've been very active the past two weeks yet no one's posting. Alot different than last year!

Well, it looks like a pattern change is underway...unfortunately not benefiting the PNW. A blocking ridge is about to set up in southern van. island which could go on for two weeks...if not longer. This is not good news for our ski resorts. During these patterns, the mountains always have the warmest temperatures because they stay above the temperature inversion. I wouldn't be surprised if there's hardly any snow left at the ski resorts once this pattern finally ends.

So what can we expect? Initially some sunshine and warmer temperatures, but once a temperature inversion forms expect persistent fog and cooler temperatures.

I'd personally write more if I knew how to interpret computer models or something like that. Since I don't, I just lurk. I just hope this upcoming ridge doesn't last forever, like it did last year.

I had the weirdest dream last night. I dreamed that the weather changed and a huge cold front moved in and the ground froze before my eyes. My dreams come true alot. I don't think this ridge will last forever. I have a feeling we will see snow before christmas :D

The reason this thread is so quiet is because certain individuals here insisted that their point of view was the the ONLY view and that everyone should agree with them If you read back through all the infighting that went on, who would want to get involved unless you like someone verbally beating you up for everything you said? I believe most of them have moved on to other weather boards. Since there is no one left to pick on, nobody uses the discussion anymore. On top of that, you have to admit, PNW weather is usually not all that exciting as weather extremes(west of the Cascades) are pretty rare.Last week was OK but it doesn't even come close to the midwest and east coast. And once again...what is the prevailing pattern on the west coast?? High pressure...now how exiciting is that?? Glad I was around in the 1960's when the pattern was far more extreme and we really had "winter" from November to April.

Wow, this is the longest thread I've seen in my life!
Its fun to read this thread and see how the weather evolved all through last year.

Very odd pattern change for a La Nina

#6496 Postby Cumulonimbus » Wed Feb 01, 2006 11:37 pm

I find it very strange(but not unusual) that once again, the only kind of full latitude ridge position from Oct-March is EXACTLY over the west coast of North America, not east of it, not west of it but right on top of the coastline. And ALWAYS between October-March. The EXACT location is perfect to keep ANY cold air out of Western Washinton, Western Oregon and Northern California. In the past ridges would at least form WEST of 140 degrees but no more. And does anybody find it a little strange that the PNA has NOT BEEN NEGATIVE once since Dec 3rd. Not once!

La Nina??? Not like they used to be! And another strange thing. GFS can forecast a full latitude ridge PERFECTLY if it is over the coast. And 2 weeks in advance...again almost PERFECTLY. But if it forecasts it 130 degrees or west , the forecast fizzles within 24 hours. Makes me wonder if maybe all the talk of people controlling the weather might be right. The odds of this happening over and over and over again in the SAME location don't seem to be mathematically possible and yet a full latitude locked in ridge right on the coastline has magically appeared...again! Amazing!
