Wish my dad the best health...
My dad is at the hospital right now, until morning as far as we know. He and I have anixity, as well as panic attacks. He's taken pills, and ran out recently. He has had a few panic attacks over the last few days, and had a nasty panic attack (WHICH I HAVE ALSO HAD) at work this evening. He decided to go to the hospital, and since he's 50, and never had a stress test, ect.. he decided to get one. So far, everything has turned out good, but some more tests wont come out until the morning. Just wish him the best for me...Im sure everything will be alright.

Prayers for your dad. I think I may have had a panic attack at work the other day, but I am not sure. I felt dizzy, like I was going to pass out. I could not breathe and felt like I was going to die. It lasted for over 2 hours before it went away. I am not on Lexapro anymore which is which I used to take for anxiety. Now, I am very nervous all the time all over again for no reason. I don't want to get back on the medicine. It caused weight gain, made me extremly tired and nausated all the time. And I was only on 10 mg.

I'm glad that the tests came back okay. Sometimes you'll find that medication that have to take on a temporary basis you'll have to always be on it. It's just one of those things. I've been on Prozac since 1988 and I hate the fact that I have to take it just to be "normal", not to mention the side affects. I wouldn't/couldn't live a day without it though!

Prayers for you both - and for all who face these problems. Myself, I had a long-time problem w. depression, but when I awoke from knee surgery, it was just gone. I had been on Paxil briefly, and generally a mess before that. Can't explain it.
What screwed me up years ago was severe lack of sleep and a diet of mostly sugar and caffine. I was sleeping only 3 to four hours, eating tons of candy bars, drinking no water just sodas or large coffees w. loads of sugar. I was even putting several Vivarin (caffine pills) into those coffees. This cost me my military career (had option of staying/retraining or getting Honorable Discharge). My best advice is to make sure you guys eat a balanced diet and get plenty of sleep. I have an uncle who was drinking a lot of diet soda and had all kinds of wierd health issues. He quit the artificial sweetners and his problems have almost entirely vanished. Maybe some folks DO have problems with these chemicals, so if you guys are into them, cut back and see if you feel better.
Getting right spiritually is medicine for that inner-place, too. Know that your maker CAN handle a lot of the load for you, and that it is OKAY to NOT worry about all of the tragedy in the world. Pick the little fights that you can make a difference in, and DO SOMETHING about it. When you win a few - be it helping neighbors, or animal shelters, etc - then that inner stress can be reduced. The "world" is a big place - too big for you to worry yourself sick over. Start chipping away at some tiny little problems and you'll feel better. As that book, The Purpose-Driven Life starts out with: "It's not about YOU". The distraction of helping others just might be the ticket.
Finally, explore some hobbies or even a self-owned business you and your dad can do together. What are your and his experiences? Everyone has a story and unique life adventure. Maybe you can write a little book together. It doesn't have to be fancy - or 200 pages. With the internet, you can post your writings online or sell your own little books. This sort of creative outlet could be yet another distraction for you both.
Again, prayers for you all. I want to say that I still fight my own battles, but I can't. From a mix of the things I'm talking about - I just feel better and worry so much less. I refuse to feel sorry for myself, and I want to use my time to put good things into the world. And I wish so much that my dad was still alive to share this feeling. Those of you who still have your dads - know that you are so blessed. This alone should lift some of those dark clouds!
