I'd say Wilma's explosive intensification and record low pressure takes the prize.

Although Katrina in terms of the surge and the damage it caused was amazing I am with Jan about Wilma as she made history being the lowest pressure ever system in the Atlantic Basin and more amazing doing that in late october.

is that a record 918 MB cat 3.makes me wonder if Super typhoon tip was just a tropical storm at those levels.
