Aaron Brown out at CNN

#1 Postby Brent » Wed Nov 02, 2005 4:42 pm

From Mediaweek:

CNN's Brown Out: Cooper's 360° Moves to 10 p.m. Slot
November 02, 2005

By Anthony Crupi

Aaron Brown is out at CNN, and Anderson Cooper will take over Brown’s 10 p.m. time slot, effective Monday.

The shakeup comes as a result of some prime time scheduling moves that CNN made official Wednesday. Cooper will take his 7 p.m. showcase, Anderson Cooper 360°, to the 10-midnight spot, formerly occupied by Brown’s NewsNight. Cooper’s old spot will be filled by an additional hour of The Situation Room, hosted by Wolf Blitzer.

In a memo to staffers, CNN president Jon Klein said the veteran anchor “will be leaving CNN and is very much looking forward to some well-deserved time off with his family.”

Since mid-September, Brown and Cooper had been paired on NewsNight, as Klein sought to capitalize on Cooper’s surge in popularity in the wake of his coverage of Hurricane Katrina’s aftermath.

Brown joined CNN in 2001 and first came to prominence with his on-air reporting from New York on Sept. 11 of that year. Cooper joined CNN as a weekend anchor in December 2001 and began hosting Anderson Cooper 360° in March 2003.

In his note to staffers, Klein said praised Brown for his “stellar” work as an anchor, adding “there is no question that he will be missed.”

Aaron Brown was a newscaster at Kiro 7 our local CBS station in Seattle back in the 80's and early 90's. And Nick Walker from TWC was the local met on the same channel. The look pretty much the same as they did back then LOL

It sounds like he was "forced out" although CNN is acting like he left voluntarily... they probably told him "your show is gone" and he didn't want to stay after that...

I was hoping I'd wake up this morning and it would have been all a bad dream about Aaron leaving CNN.

But it isn't

This is a big loss, not just to CNN's audience, but journalism in general. Brown brought depth and substance to his reporting. Sadly, the trend against gravitas in journalism continues to run unchecked. The marriage of entertainment and information--infotainment--that remains in the ascendancy cannot provide the vital information that the viewing public needs to be truly informed on the crucial issues of the day.

Well said donsutherland...I couldn't have said it better myself.
Aaron Brown was Aaron Brown..and that was his style, and he worked it effectively.

Nevertheless...I hope in the future we will have a network on tv right next to (FNC) FOXNEWSCHANNEL and CNN..and it will be..
ABNN
AARONBROWNNEWSNETWORK

'cause then I will subscribe.

I will really miss Aaron Brown (even though, in general, I do not watch televised news). During Katrina, he was the ONLY anchor that I thought was listening to his on-scene reporters and his various interviewees. He asked appropriate follow-up questions, instead of blindly following a script that would be wrong in many cases. (Contrast that to one anchor who PRIOR to Katrina's landfall asked an official in Houma what the city was doing with New Orleans evacuees. Given that Houma is south of NO and was a possible target, the official repeatedly said that no one from NO was there -- again, prior to landfall. The anchor nonetheless asked about three or four times about the NO evacuess. Geez Louise.).

:roflmao:

He already hosts 3 hours a day on CNN 6 days a week so that's not that far off the mark. lol.

Aaron provided tremendous coverage of 9/11 and was a calm and steady voice who provided gravitas during breaking news events. I'll miss him.

Hopefully, another cable news network will pick him up.

Isn't Anderson Cooper related to someone famous.? Is it his mother???
Does anyone know???
Nothing personal but I never did care for Aaron Brown. At 9pm I always switched over to Fox News and watched Greta.
