How much do you listen to music, how important is it to you?

How much do you listen to music/radio and how important is it in your life? I listen to music/radio at LEAST a total of 6 hours a day sometimes MORE and music is a VERY important part of my life, I LOVE IT! I listen to the radio in the car/pickup EVERYWHERE I go, in the workshop, in the restroom while taking a shower/getting dressed. We've now got digital cable with OVER 60 music channels, I've wired the stereo into the tv and BLAST some GOOD OLD rock, 60's, 70's (Pink Floyd, Steve Miller) and the 80's!

When I'm at the gym, I take my CD player with me and listen to HARD rock to keep me motivated, when I'm driving I like the NEW country music, not the twangy stuff. When I'm inside the house, I listen to my BUDDY Nat King Cole, in the workshop........it's whatever I'm in the mood for!

I probably listen to music roughly 6 of 8 hours at work from my iPod (also to and from work on the bus); and 90% of the time I'm home and awake iTunes is playing podcasts, my own music, public radio and/or internet stations. Music has always been a huge part of my life - nothing can quite match or affect my mood quite like it!

Same here Purdue/Andy......I usually listen to current music, via my teenage daughters. They both have iPod's and usually update them. Burning CD's for the car too. Which I should add, is music they've paid for, thru iTunes or CD's we've already purchased. That's a big pet peeve in this family - stealing music! So glad my girls know better..... So I guess what I'm saying is I'm somewhat current, with what band is good right now b/c that's what is playing in my car CD player. Never oldies! Even when they were babies, I still listened to alt rock. Guess I've been an influence on them.....LOL

I wish my mom was as cool as you, Mary! Actually, now that I don't live at home anymore, she seems to be. We always had to listen to classic rock, which I absolutely hated up until a year or so ago. It's definitely grown on me, so much so that I have some Boston, Fleetwood Mac, etc. downloaded. I'm all about paying for it, too. I've gotten some music from friends, but I feel like that's the same concept as a mixed tape of the 80's - not stealing, sharing.

I like to listen to music also, especially TWC music. However, I'm not dependent on it.

There are days where I don't listen to music at all, and at most I listen to it about two to three hours a day. But I always like to keep good tunes in my mind so I don't need an MP3 player or my computer always.

Andy - I should add that we've always followed local bands, one in particular. That ~almost~ made it.....sigh. All original music. When you follow local bands and what the latest sound is, that just naturally leads to stations that play current music. BTW, I don't care for classic rock too! I was into that music, eons ago. One local station is still playing Stairway to Heaven. I will really date myself but that was my 1974 Prom's Theme Song. So everytime I hear it, and it plays weekly, I just cringe. Usually when flipping thru radio channels. There it is, or a Pink Floyd song.....all were superb, in their day. What I've noticed is most people my husband's age and mine (I'm 3 years older), is whatever was their favorite era, teens or 20s, they've stayed with it. That's what they prefer listening to in the car and they don't understand local, current music either! They prefer cover bands, that play their favorite songs from 20 odd years ago. So sigh, I feel like I'm in the minority but at least I do have kids that keep me current. Right not they are into Franz Ferdinand, Louis XIV, Dinosaur Junior, Cake, Modest Mouse, the Killers, Deathcab for Cutie (sp?), Keane, etc. Their homemade CD's rotate in my car, one is entirely of Flogging Molly (have to admit that is very different, Irish music but I try to appreciate). My oldest daughter went to Lallapollooza this past summer in Chicago. She still talks about that trip and how awesome it was.

I really think it's b/c of the local music interest we have, that we've naturally stayed current. Otherwise I'd probably be listening to classic rock too! Your mom sounds like a lot of my friends. It is hard to socialize with them at a nightclub playing music sometimes!

I'm hooked on music. Playing it and listening to it. Everything from Gordon Lightfoot to Metallica. From Pink Floyd to Alice in Chains and Audioslave to Pantera. It just doesnt matter. Music will always be a part of who I am.

I've listened to my customized online radio station about 1-3 hours a day. I listen to a little bit of everything, it's another way to get through my day.

Under normal circumstances, I listen to music all day - I have a radio at my office in New Orleans. They do not allow them here in Baton Rouge - and it is just too darn quiet. I cannot WAIT to go home for good.

Mary, I'm a big fan of local and indie music, too. That scene was nearly non-existent back at Purdue, but luckily internet radio helped me get around that as best as possible. Here in Madison, the scene is a billion times better. There are also several theatres/clubs here that almost exclusively invite indie rock/folk/alt-country/electronica bands to play, so even if I can't go see them, I'm able to check them out online and find new music that way. oh music is so important in my life.........I mean I could not imagine getting in the car and having no music to listen too!!!! The radio is always on in the car......and if its not my daughter will tell me to turn it on!!!! LOL!!!! I love all kinds of music......pretty much a little bit of everything!!!!! Honestly, I rarely listen to music. Not allowed at work; when I am home I usually listen to MPR while getting meals together, etc. In the car, I do listen to whatever is new, curteousy of my 12 year old son!

Music is a very big part of my life. I listen mostly to Contempary Christian music. I try to make it a part of my day everyday, sort of my worship for the day. Gets my spirit in tune with THE SPIRIT.

I used to drive down there to go to shows all the time - State St. was like a mecca for me and my friends when we were 15 or so! Green Bay used to have a pretty good indie/punk scene as well.... I helped out setting up shows at a club there for a while, but I haven't been up that way in years....

Music is ridiculously important to me and has been for ages. When I was a little kid my parents wouldn't let me listen to the radio, so I would hide my walkman under my mattress and wait til they were sleeping...then stay up all night just listening. My first concert (Green Day, barely pre-Dookie, in a warehouse attached to a bar) turned into an obsession....all through high school I spent most of my time either setting up shows, watching shows or driving to get to shows. It was supa cool!

I'm still kind of a music freak, and it drives me nuts that I can't listen at work. As I have gotten older I have learned to appreciate most genres of music (except for country - ack!!).....right now I'm in my first hip hop phase ever, and its making everyone who knows me think I've lost my mind.... But good music is good music, and no one genre really has a corner on it....

OMG Stormie.....OMG again. I wish I had been at that concert! That is so neat you can say you were there...... We liked GD right away, as soon as we heard their distinct garage band like sound. Years later our kids got into GD and mentioned Dookie.....I just walked over to our CD collection and said you mean this one....they couldn't believe it was sitting there all this time. It immediately went in the CD player......when I listed bands they're into, I should have included GD. GD is almost always at the top of their list.....can't believe I didn't mention them. Nirvana too (Foo Fighters also). This list could go on all night!

Do you have your ticket stub from that concert? Were you close to the stage? Get to meet Billie Joe? That is just too neat.....now I'm impressed!

I listen to music every chance I can get when I am not reading or in class, anytime I'm alone. Music would probably be the last thing I'd give up from my daily life. Life without music would be unimagineable. I have a good appreciation for all music, including some country music.

Modern music is one reason I'm glad I was born in the modern era as opposed to the earlier ones, where music was less developed.
