Weather Concern for Central FL

#1 Postby NEXRAD » Mon Oct 24, 2005 2:26 am

I know that many are probably focusing on Wilma's eye, but if you are in Central Florida, please be aware of the tornado threat. Currently there are numerous strong storm cells capable of developing rotation across East Central Florida. These storms will be moving across... Indian River, Brevard, Osceola, Orange, Polk, Seminole, and Volusia Counties, and may be able to reach towards Lake and Sumter County.

A tornado developed in Brevard County earlier tonight and caused many significant damage reports in the Cocoa area. Additional strong tornadoes are possible, and the Storm Prediction Center has Eastern Florida from about Volusia Co. south under a moderate risk for storm cells with damaging winds and tornadoes. The SPC also has highlighted a risk for F2 to F5 tornadoes.

Thanks for the heads-up, Jay. I myself have been up all night monitoring the developments - am exhausted, but no way I could sleep.

I must admit that with the recent further intensification of this storm, and the emphasis on the severe threat of tornados in our area, I'm pretty nervous. Polk county was awfully active in that respect last night, and the worst isn't even here yet!

Thanks again for the update, and I'll be keeping an eye out for more info. Stay safe.
