No way, Andrew's eye was about 15 miles wide. Latest recon was a 60 mile eye for Wilma so that's roughly 15 Andrew eyes inside Wilma's eye.

Yeah, Andrew's eye was 10 miles in diameter--making it 79 square miles and Wilma's eye is 60--making it 2828 square miles!

To add, there could fit 40 WILMA's eye when it was 2 miles in the Caribbean Sea.

Thank you for correcting me. But it wasn't 15 at landfall. The NHC says it was 11 knots on average at landfall--making it 12 miles.
See: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/1992andrew.html

It is a concerning paper to scan through right now, because Andrew was also moving through Florida at top speed, and it's lowest pressure was at 940--14 mb lower than this storm which fell 3 mb in one hour and still has 6 or 7 hours to go. Note that Andrew strengthened even when it was over land initially because of the land interaction according to the NHC. It would be bad if this one did that too. Anyway, I'm off to bed. I'll pray for you all in Florida before I go to bed. Good night.

I love the fact that the guy reporting for CBS4 down in Key West has a green glow-stick around his neck.

He went to Key West, saw Wilma coming, and did a 180.

While I don't want to say the NHC is wrong, there's simply no way this eye was under 20km (I measured 25km with a piece of string)

I am running on adreneline here. Waiting and ready for some shock and awe. I expect Cat 2 winds. This is going to be a long night.

You might as well go to sleep, the Cat 2 winds won't be there til after sunrise anyway.

Why in heavens would anybody be "waiting and ready for some shock and awe"

Have you not seen what has happened to the lives of people over the last few years? You should be praying for Wilma to lose strength, NOT shock and awe.

I want to go to sleep so bad. But I need to get the new pressure readings and SE quad winds before I feel more comfortable.

Yep. I am off to bed as well...as for our area, tomorrow will be a LONG day. This is probably my last post unless I find some interesting tidbits about her before I retire for the morning. Quite nervous here in Ft. Lauderdale...will try to video some of the winds. Goodnight all. Wish us luck. 8-)
