Most major hurricane US strikes in a year...

#1 Postby senorpepr » Sun Oct 23, 2005 10:04 pm

The most major hurricanes to strike the United States in a given year is three. That was set in 1909, 1933, 1954, 1955, 2004, and 2005. However... if Wilma strikes as a major... 2005 will hold the record alone with four.

Compared to no majors between Bret (1999) and Charley (2004) a period of nearly 5 years.

not to mention that Wilma is now the 5th major hurricane in the Gulf this year(Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita, Wilma). I am not sure if this has ever happened before either.

Those of us in our plywooded homes wish to ask:

Does it really get that cold in Nebraska in the winter?

And to think of all of those 3-5 total named storm years in the 70's and
80's - payback from nature.
