Fla. Keys conditions

#1 Postby olddude » Sun Oct 23, 2005 4:51 pm

Getting our first feeder band. Wind out of the southeast at 15 mph. Gust to 22mph. Light showers.
Just heard that according to traffic counts only 5 - 7% of residents have evacuated. Personaly I think that is a little low. Many residents, including my wife and daughters, left on Thursday. I doubt that those counts were taken that early.
Now media is saying 15% evaced. Sounds closer.

Good luck to all you guys down there. Stay safe............I've got friends from Tavernier all the way down to Key West. If it weren't for Wilma, I would have been down there yesterday. One of my buddy's from Cudjoe just got up here, and we plan on driving back down there on Tuesday. Hopefully there won't be too much damage to property and no damage of life at all.

Just had a gust of 45mph which was emphasized with a resounding crash under my stilt house. Just a stack of extra plywood readjusting itself.

Wind gusts are constant now. 30's mph to 40's mph out of the southeast. Not much rain yet. Power is starting to flicker but not enough to shut down the computer.

Wind gusts now recorded at 58 mph in Key West. Local radio station US-1 off the air. Hopefully just power failure and not antenna.

Power is flickering some. I am right on the Atlantic side about 25 miles from Key West and it seems like the wind is 45-55, my boat basin only shows a surge of about 1.5 feet at this time. I am going to try and get a few hours sleep expecting the worst to be around 1-2am.

US-1 radio is back on the air. Power is fluctuating. Key West streets on the south are starting to flood.
