That's what one would think. However, SFMR and Max Mayfield confirmed that surface winds were about 100% of flight level, if not a touch higher. That suggests unbelievably efficient transport of winds to the surface for such a system.

I hate to be crude - but now is NOT the time to be jerking around with people. If you are one of the ones in or even close to the path of this storm - fun STOPS HERE.

It would look to me that we all would be trying to help each other with accurate information at this time. Now IMOHO and 25 cents will buy
you a cup of coffee I guess.

I pray for us all at this time, and hope that all will be spared any
horrible damage to life and property.

I'm sorry, but anyone who posts deliberate misinformation on this forum as a hurricane approaches landfall should be immediately and permanently banned.

That includes YOU, AZS.

It's okay, just remember that people's nerves are already rattled and this does not help. The least you can do is label that as a j/k.

That's what one would think. However, SFMR and Max Mayfield confirmed that surface winds were about 100% of flight level, if not a touch higher. That suggests unbelievably efficient transport of winds to the surface for such a system.

The 5pm discussion mentioned peak FL winds 100 kts and a peak SFMR-measured surface wind of 87kts. That's about an 87% conversion from 700mb. With lots of dry air flowing out across the NE Gulf, less of the stronger winds will be transported down to the surface.

But the good thing is that those peak winds are not wrapping all around the center. the AVERAGE winds around the hurricane are much lower than the 90 kts being carried.

Still, a hurricane with 75-95 mph winds in 3 quadrants is nothing to take lightly. When Katrina hit Miami, it was only a very very minimal Cat 1 with 75 mph winds in a quite small area. It still did over $2 billion in damage.

In this thing could go over Miami as a cat2...People are going to be suprized at the damage they are going to see. Katrina hit MS as a 125 mph hurricane in caused that damage they got.

Having been there with Katrina and Rita, I totally agree. This is not a joking matter. Stay safe Floridians!
