Board up in Broward?

#1 Postby jinftl » Sat Oct 22, 2005 6:26 pm

Wondering if I should put up the storm shutters here in Broward?

Understanding that no forecast is certain, I am wondering what type of conditions are most likely to be experienced in Broward with Wilma.

I heard that Max Mayfield director of the Hurricane Center had his house boarded up..and he lives in Kendall, Miami-Dade.... so if you live in Broward, its better to be safe than sorry.

If the Director does it... that means you should do it too, given the uncertainties. AT least if you do it and it wasn't all that bad, you would have less regrets than if you didn't do it and your windows blew out.

I would do it... just because you don't know exactly what the intensity is going to be. Safe than sorry.

IMHO, panels won't do much good in a tornado, anyway...
but I'd wait until the 11am update tomorrow, if it doesn't take more than a couple hours to put them up, if I were down there.

Hey...guess what? Read your insurance policy. Mine says that if I don't use the provided pre storm mitigation equipment provided or required by public officials, the company may elect not to pay a windstorm claim. In a nut shell....if code required your home to be provided with shutters and you don't use them, you aren't covered for hurricane windstorm damage. Think about it...is it worth the risk?

Good point. In fact, very good point. I'd forgotten about that.
