Tom Rector TV 20 Ft. Myers....

#1 Postby TheShrimper » Sat Oct 22, 2005 6:25 pm

seems like he is back to his old inebriated self. Downplayed every possible threat that Wilma could potentially inflict here. And the new weather girl, Haley something, was again, a poor excuse for a weather represenative. Tom has consistantly said from the inception that there was no worry, it's west and will die out, while Haley consistantly see's stuff moving from Lauderdale to Ft. Myers and states that the movement is easterly. Very unprofessional portrayal, whether it be tropically related or not. If you are in SW Fl., stick with Jim Rief or Jim Farrell. They are pro's, not these 2 buffoons. You can throw Syoen in too, on the buffoon list as well. What a joke.

Van Winkle did a great job with Charley last year, they'll have him in once things are about to pick up. Agreed about the rest of 'em though. Rector has been around for a long time, but he's an old drunk who can barely stammer out a coherant forecast of calm weather in the allotted time, let alone a hurricane. That new girl is pretty much useless all around. Syoen is around to yuk it up in the morning, useful analysis is way too much to ask from that guy.

Well stated. I agree, when the coupled Van Winkle and Reif together during Charley's approach, you couldn't have asked for any better results than that. The rest are a bunch of blowhards, including the new guy who thinks he is God's gift to the world.

Our local mets in SW Florida...

Rector's the same old drunk he's been for years... Syoen married into Waterman broadcasting (he's not going anywhere...damn) and is completely useless (think Jim Carrey in Bruce Almighty), which leaves us with Van Winkle, who, IMO is coasting off his Charley coveragefrom last year. Reif is the real deal (good think he's a Waterman met..he really did make Van Winkle look goodlast year). Farrell almost fell into the same trap as Rector with his reputation for clubbing quite a few years back, but as a met he's hit or miss. The only met I really thought had it on the ball was Jim Clark, but he retired to work with the Fire Dept. Weather reporting, unfortunately has become entertainment rather than reporting.

Of course, right now I'm really missing John Hope (RIP), as this was the season tailor-made for his analysis.

didn't know that about Farrell, in fact I am quite suprised. I have seen Rector on Sunday mornings seem quite composed. What he does between the AM newscasts and the ones aired after the sporting events in the afternoon leads you to believe he was getting hammered somewhere. I do remember him apologizing years ago for being boxed on the air. He stated after a deluge of rain, that the ground could take no more, then laughed on air that, " thats not the only thing that is saturated".
