I just checked Storm Carib: Things are really going from bad to worse down there. Kevin reported in his last dispatch that 10 sliding glass doors in the building have been shattered by the wind and a man and 2 children are apparently lost somewhere in the building, according to building security. I can't believe he can still post in such conditions!

A laptop and a buried phone line are all you need. In every hurricane to hit our area, the phone service never went out. In fact, I was in an AOL chatroom during Fran, doing a blow-by-blow update of the storm. When I finally reported the power went out, several people immediately thought I was lying, there was no way I could still be online. I pointed out that I was on a laptop and they were all like DOH, forgot about those handy devices. That very reason is why I keep land-line phone service. Even when the satellite is down due to winds/rain/snow/clouds and the power is out, as long as the phone line is active, I can still get up to the minute information. Besides our local cable company (which I can't get anyway, I live too far away, live too far away for DSL, won't pay for satellite!) has a habit of disconnecting the cable internet during severe weather. Most of the local ISP's do too, that's why I have a national provider.

Indeed. Mexico has really taken a beating this year. They've had it just as bad as the U.S.
Emily, Stan, and Wilma.
I can't remember the last time Mexico (the Atlantic side) was hit by 3 hurricanes.

Well, there has been no report from this Kevin guy since 2:15......Last report sounded very bad.
Someone posted this link, for more info possibly, but it is real slow.

They've been pounded for 24, going on 36 hours, nonstop....
I heard a weather station in the area reported sustained winds of at least 90 kts for at least 8 hours.
WOW, that right there is enough to probably create damage comparable to a strong Cat 4 maybe even a 5.
