Sen. Nelson aboard Gulfstream jet

#1 Postby cgstorm5 » Fri Oct 21, 2005 5:15 pm

This is so pathetic letting a politician fly with the professionals. Why should they since he is probably the reason why funding to NOAA and other science programs have been cut. On CNN he reported that the Gulfstream-IV will be out of commission Sun. due to maintanence problems. So when CNN met. Chad Myers asked "what will you do help the meteorology community since each flight is so expensive? " Frist stuttered to find a solution.
He said something like "we'll pump more money into the NOAA projects after what Katrina showed us." Currently I think your special trip across FL has guzzled enough gasoline that no Floridian can even "pump" fuel. Lol.
Even after Katrina the government will still be more concerned about a possible terrorist attack but keeps a blind-eye to 4 major hurricanes. I even bet he's there for the military aspect to report back to Rumsfeld. And besides all these fly-overs with senior officials in them is tax payers money down the drain.

if I recall they go out on flights ALREADY scheduled therefore if it can help them realize the importance of the funding for the NHC then let them go!

Actually, I'd say that if this gets them some good will in the Senate and a little more understanding of their needs, I'm all for giving the Senator a ride.

Having "unforseen" equipment failures during the filght could make the case for more money for maintenance and new equipment.

My mistake thanks for the correction but I didn't mean to be that political. My point is the government always increases the funds after the fact. But, that's mostly common sense now. America does more for Pakistan or se Asia than it's own people.
I repeat I did not mean to be politically bantering in these stressful times. To Moderators:lessoned learned- will not put any political posts even if directly tied to meteorology. Lock the topic before a "storm" breaks loose please.

Uh, you left out that Frist is a heart surgeon. Not exactly a street sweeper. The investigation is a witch hunt. He was absolutel forthcoming in answering all questions by the senate ethics panel. Nothing there so do not pretend like there is.

Right. Republicans would never indulge in a witch hunt. Oh, by the way Monica would like her dress back.
