A hurricane that moves around landmasses- Ivan around Jamacia-
Comes very close to hitting but then the eye wall moves along the
coast.
I believe this phenomenon occurs during times of weak/no steering.
It's like they have a mind of their own. I think it involves the eye
moving/staying over an area most conducive to its thriving.
Regarding Wilma- if there were steering and a stronger ridge it would have barrelled totally into the central Yucatan Peninsula Yesterday.
So Given:
1. Little or no steering
2. A very intense storm
We see this phenomenon.
