Stanley caused deaths as a Cat 1, imagine Wilma as a Cat 5..

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

hurricane barreling down on the Yucatan, Stanley was only a Cat 1 and it caused over a 1000 deaths in that area, a Category 5 over there could have worse results than Mitch

I'm assuming you mean Hurricane Stan. Not to discredit the danger of Wilma, but Stan hit a much more impoverished area (90%+ of the deaths were in Guatemala)...and it was a big rain event, mudslides were probably the leading cause of deaths...I don't think you can compare the two.

Emily hit the area earilier this year as a Cat 4. I think that another strong storm would be particularly destructive to the area.

First, the deaths caused by Stan were not in the Yucatan Peninsula alone, they were mainly concentrated in Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Mexican state of Chiapas.

Second, Stan wind damage was minimal and not related to deaths.

Third, I feel Wilma's impact will be more economical than personal

Exactly, I don't think there was one death from the Yucatan peninsula.

Emily's death toll in the area was 3, and they were all indirect.
