Stuck in Cancun...

#1 Postby sponger » Thu Oct 20, 2005 10:29 am

I just found out my brother Sgt Patrick O'mara, fresh from the battle field in Iraq, is Stranded in Cancun with his buddy. How about a big prayer for all off those in Cancun about to ride out this beast. We have lost all contact after they were evac by bus to a unknown shelter.

Update: Looks like Aero Mex is cashing in. He hooked up with at 7:45 pm Local Flight to Miami. They are charging $2,600! My question is what are the chances that flight will get out? I assume that is 8:45 EST. Thank ahead of time!

I have friends in Cozumel and Isla Mujeres who are riding it out.

I'll be in Cozumel in 4 weeks. I hope the island fares well yet again.

Many of my son's friends are there as well. He was supposed to go but was unable to because of work commitments.

Thoughts and prayers for all of those in the path of Wilma.

So it looks like Wilma will stall over Cancun as a cat 4 for a couple of days ?

If that scenario plays out, there won't be much left there afterwards. Hopefully everyone is in very sturdy shelters ! Best wishes for everyone there.

He should have tried hooking up with one of the many US airlines that fly into Cancun. That way, he'd have some legal recourse vis-a-vis price gouging under our own corporate laws afterwards.

EDIT: your friend got screwed. I just checked orbitz, and he could've taken a 7:45 p.m. american airlines flight direct to miami (one-way) for $494. Or, a Mexicana flight earlier today at 1:44 p.m. for $206 one-way. Both still have seats available. WHOOPS!

Believe me info is old. US airlines quit at 10 am and all flights are booked. He is at the airport and it is a circus!

Get as far away from the water as possible...

I'm not sure that flight will leave... apparently there has already been sustained winds near TS force so I would think with conditions only going to get worse, the flight would not leave.
