A fall of 100mb in 24 hours is the extreme rate of deepening for a Supertyphoon.

Is that a record for a 12 hour period? Sure sounds like it should be one.

I'm speechless. Please God, make Wilma just go away.

We've already seen that the devastation that Mother Nature can bestow upon us makes angry terrorists seem like small potatoes in comparison, but for an extreme category 5 hurricane to visit our shores in mid-November, that seems extreme by every measure of the word.

I hope the authorities in Florida are preparing seriously for this historic hurricane.

This is unreal. Just this morning I assumed that we might have a category two or at the most a minimal cat-3 hurricane strike the Florida Gulf Coast this weekend, but Wilma is almost too strong to contemplate.

I'm shocked  , but on the upside, doesn't the fact that it is so strong right now mean that by the time it hits us it should be a lot weaker. They don't hold that kind of strength for long, right?

Has anyone on this planet ever seen an IR satellite image that looked like this?

Image

I kinda doubt it.

Gilbert and Mitch look pretty familiar to that shot.

it is growing in size as well.

nce we see an EWRC, we likely will see a much larger eye.

this likely will eventually grow to a Rita sized storm

but will be weaker, right? From what I understand, as the eyewall widens, and the wind field spreads out, the wind speeds drop too, which is clearly what the NHC is expecting. Also as far away as she is from Florida right now this is not all that bad, because one can assume that she has peaked and that there is plenty of time for a lot of weakening. It looks like the intensity forecast for landfall has not changed.

UMMMMMMMM..... WTF?! I had been half-heartedly watching this over the past few days, I sure didn't expect to wake up to a sub-900MB pressure though....
