Got a speeding ticket today, written up for 39 in a 30. Lucky that it was only for that, as I was foolish enough to go faster.

I was advised to take the matter to court as I would likely receive no points and a reduced fine since I have no other points on the liscense. For those familiar with Coral Gables, is it like a lot of other areas where they reduce speeding to something lesser, or is it just a lesser version of speeding. I am wondering because if a speeding goes on my record, up goes the old insurance

DO NOT go to court. If you lose, you get hit with court costs in Florida, and you get points. Go to traffic school, and they will expunge the points--that is the important thing, as it may make your insurance go up (especially if you are a male under 25). I know all of this as my 23 year old son was in the same boat.

I was 19 when I got my last and only speeding ticket doing 70 in a 35 mph. I was on the feeder trying to get around slow traffic and it was one of those set ups where a bunch of cops are on the side street and they step out with their radar gun and motion you over. I had to skreeeecchhh and I caught everybody's attention. The cop comes saundering over to my car shaking his head. "Do you know what the speed limit is here?" "No," I said sheepishly (I really didn't). "Do you know how fast you were going?" I sank deeper into my seat and whispered, "no." He was cute so I decided to flirt. "Ya know," I innocently started off, "I've never gotten a speeding ticket, this will be my first and my parents are going to kill me!" And with a cut of the eye and a sly helpless defeated look, I sighed, "But I do deserve it." "Well," he replied, "I have to give it to you because my supervisor is standing right over there." But then he added with a wink, "Come to court, perhaps you can get out of it." I showed up on the appointed day and he was there for all of the speeding tickets he handed out that day, but he didn't stand up to testify against me and I plead not guilty.

Okay, everybody dawg me. I played him. The only thing I regret (besides the speeding, of course!) - not getting a date!

^^^^

I can't do that because I am a guy. Not too many female police officers either, but it would never work... again... because I am a guy.

Its tough. :D

I do 65 on the way to school all the time on Military Trail(a 45 zone) and haven't had any problems yet. Also have done 75 in a 30 zone but theres never any cops in that area. The only time they give you trouble is the end of the month to get their quota.

I wouldn't take my chances in court if I were you. You could end up owing more. Take the ticket and do the driving school to have the points removed. Insurance companies cannot raise your rates if you do that.
