I have degenerative disc disease in my cervical spine. (probably from spinning my head around so much) I had a spinal fusion surgery 7 years ago. I've been under the care of a Pain Management Clinic for 2 years. They are wonderful there and it has changed my life big time. I am doing much better since my pain is under control and have been receiving the right treatments. :D

Good idea there Bill!

Karan with her Earl Grey by day, Annette with her Margarita's by night, Steve with his sage advice 24/7, Dennis stoking the PBS fire, and AFLAC keeping the 'puters going, and oh yeah, she be a 'ho available for lap sits (clean thoughts everyone!), and well, we'd be all set.

We'd be dubbed the S2K Support Group - who need wx? LOL

Mary

PS - MomH/Mary, that's the exact part I'm missing too - sans Sigmoid here also. I think we've swapped war stories before.....hang in there. Sure beats being stuck in that hospital. I've spent my share of long stays there but nothing like you did! You must have been going crazy. What I missed was fresh air. The first time I was in for 7 days, on the way home hubby wanted to run the A/C. I said no way, I want open windows. He didn't quite understand what's it's like to breathe recyled air for a week....it feels strange.

Ok, Karan reporting for duty. I'll brew a pot of Earl Grey and grab the phones.

I have a much longer prayer list after reading these posts. I hope the friendship of the Storm2k family helps all of you heal a little and feel comforted. ((HUGS)) Eric your Mom was in a special prayer group last night.

Hey Poppysky, my advice for New Years Eve would be to sleep till noon and stay up ALL night.

MissMary - my restless leg syndrome started when I was pregnant with my 13 year old. The Dr.'s say that it is part of the fibromyalgia but that the pregnancy probably did trigger it. However, with fibro, sometimes your nerves and muscles don't realize that you've healed and they continue to react as if you weren't. I describe the feelings as fake cramps or fake itch. My legs aren't really cramping, but I have this sensation in the nerves that mimicks cramping. It feels like someone made a drawstring bag out of my thigh muscles and is pulling it shut. Occasionally, I also feel it in my arms. It has come and gone over the years until about five years ago, then it came for good. I now have to take medicine or I have a hard time functioning during the day and an impossible time trying to sleep at night.

Stephanie - If the Clonazapam doesn't work for you , try Nuerontin. It has worked miracles for me. The only real problem with it though is weight gain. For me, I'll trade weight gain for sleep for a little while. I've tried a number of meds. and this is the only one that works.

I have a few problems that are joyously chronic...

first and foremost, I'm still getting over a bulging disk between L1 & L2... I have to resort to physical therapy every so often. Usually, I do exercises on my own. I've been given Naproxen (doesn't work), Vicatin (can't take it) and flexeril (my friend!) :D ...I basically just grin and bear it. Due to that problem, I'll have numbness up and down my left leg and commonly don't have feeling on my left foot.

second, I have migraines... I usually get them 1-2x / month... I currently take Maxalt for any migraine flair ups.

Third, THE most painful... I have extra bones in my feet (just under the ankle)... well, its genetic and my left foot NEEDS surgery to remove the bone. Right now, its bone on bone collision... there is no cartilege between the bones... The doctors think the bone is jagged shaped and is starting to rip at the tendon or the nerves. (I'll have really strong pains... enough where I can't walk) I have to be extremely careful not to hit that side of my foot.... Its immense pain if I do.

I've had foot problems all my life and besides the bone problem, I've needed to wear inserts for many years now. Because my feet grew too fast, my muscles didn't stretch enough to support the bone growth... Its sharp pains in my arches.. no it's not cramping... its Sharp, sharp pains! I'll be sprinting (swimming) and I'll get a flare up... that will instantly stop you in your tracks.

Thanks Betty Boop, but like cajungal said, the Prozac already made me gain weight. I don't think I need another excuse!

With me, the restless legs feel like they need to keep moving. It generally happens in the evening when I'm relaxing. After a while, one leg decides it needs to move, either by stretching it, shaking it, etc. I'll lay on the couch with my leg swung over the side and Marty will ask me - legs bothering you again? Sometimes just getting up and walking for a minute or so helps to calm them down. Most of the time it's one leg or another, but sometimes it's both!

Miss Mary - my restless legs started about the same time I started to take Prozac. Prozac also has a tendency to create nervous tics, so perhaps mine is related to that.

Oh Eric, I'm so happy for your mom and all of you. That is the best news! What a scare though. I'm sure she's counting her many blessings tonight....one of which is her family.

Thanks for sharing the news!

One good thing came about because I spent 7 weeks in the hospital --- I quit smoking!!!!

Been five years now (this time). Couldn't afford to go back to them now if I wanted too, which I don't.

Father Steve....

Officer Bill.....

Nurse Annette....

LOL

Mary - I already have a title, Miss Mary!

PS - MomH/Mary, that is a wonderful way to look at your hospital stay - yeah, you quit smoking. Good for you! High fiving you, g/f.......I went from a size 12 to a size 4 from my 7 day stay!!! I was wearing sizes I hadn't worn since before I had children!!! Couldn't believe it...but that will happen to you, when you don't eat solids for almost 14 days. Pre-surgery prep, that lovely sponge on stick they swab your mouth out with, thought it was a sucker until my vision cleared up 2 days later, that oh so tasty cream of celery soup and then coming home and TRYING to eat again. Yep the pounds just fell off of me. What happened....LOL A size 8 now, but they're getting tight!
