96 Fran somewhat--but I wouldn't really count is as "going through" the hurricane.

Thankfully the worst I got was TS/CAT 1 conditions:

Charley:Strong outer band of Charley- Tropical Storm Conditions
Frances: Strong TS/CAT 1 conditions; A few Roof Tiles ripped off
Jeanne: CAT 1 Conditions; Some additional roof tiles are ripped off
Dennis: Gusts to 60 mph in Outer Bands; Heavy rains from outer bands;
damage to pool screens; tornado damage in some parts of
Tampa Bay
Katrina: Gusts to 50 mph in Outer Bands; Brief heavy rains; Lots
of tree limbs scattered about due to this band
Rita: A band of very strong wind (50+) and light rain that lasted for
about 6 hours (this huge storm); and a subsequent band that brought
persistent light rain and wind for an additional 12 hours; lots of
tree limbs scattered due to this band on late Sept. 21; but since the
rain was mostly drizzle-like, not much accumulated

I've been affected by quite a few hurricanes over the years ....can't even remember their names,much less if they were retired, but the only two I would even consider I had actually been through are andrew and katrina.....andrew for obvious reasons but katrina because she was the first to make me nervous since andrew.

I've been lucky enough to be in 2 in less than a year (Sarcastic)
Ivan obviously made landfall west of here but nevertheless was in the NE quad the entire night. Dennis's eye went over my house, and the strongest winds lasted about 45 minutes. The winds were stronger with Dennis than Ivan but didnt last nearly as long luckily.

I have been with The Weather Channel as an on-site photographer for twenty years; beginning in 1985. I have been "fortunate" enough in my career to have covered blizzards, tornados, hurricanes, floods. I am always amazed at the stories that come out of those disasters; the human stories that only the camera can bring to the millions of people watching the program. I graduated with a degree in communications. I wanted to become President, but I ended up chasing Mother Nature for a living. I wouldn't trade my job for any political office. It's an amazing career, and it keeps me humble.

Yes, Andrew. Rode him out at my home. 100 mph winds with higher gusts and no power for 8 days. I don't know if Katrina really counts because I never actually rode out Katrina. We evacuated. First time in my life we ever evacuted for a hurricane threat. But, we were on the weaker side of Katrina and we got winds around the 80 mph range. And we did not have power for 3 days, but it was not that big of a deal since we own a generator. No real structral damage here for Katrina. Just more trees down than I ever saw here before. And some telephone poles down. I don't know if Rita really counts either. I don't know if she will be retired. And we did stay here for Rita, but we just mainly got strong tropical storm conditions. For Rita, they clocked a few gusts near 80 mph in my town. And we lost power for a couple of hours.

Oh, I forgot about Allison. She dumped a ton of rain on us. Put my town under 4 feet of water. Allison put Schriever on the map. We even made the channel 4 New Orleans news. My house stayed high and dry. But, the neighborhood directly across the highway from ours was not so lucky. Water was 4 feet deep and the only means of travel was by boat. I remember staying up all night. Never thought the rain was ever going to end. And having my brother go out to help the neighbors sandbag.

We also rode out Isidore here. But, he was no big deal. I was sleeping when he passed through. He gave us a lot of rain and some very gusty winds. And knocked out the power for several hours. There was also Lili. And she scared me because she took a jog to the northeast at the last few hours before landfall. And we thought Schriever in Terrebonne Parish was going to be right in the NE quad when it was still a strong cat 4. Luckily, she weakened and hit New Iberia about 70 miles to my west. We got strong tropical storm force conditions, maybe a few gusts up to hurricane force. Our lights flickered on and off, but only went out totally for a few seconds and came back on. I slept through most of Lili.
