Anyone else today...besides me...notice the S2K server seeming to be slower and somewhat more erradic today?
It's surprising given the small # of members/lurkers/posters on currently... compared to when the crowd size and server do during a given landfall threatening system.

(technical explanation warning)
The Apache and MySQL servers are both on the same physical server configuration here at S2K, so when many users are trying to do the same thing all at once (post topics, send PM's, register accounts, etc.); the server load shoots very high; even for a Dual Xeon configuration like we have. Marshall was going to put the MySQL database on another server but I don't know what happened to that idea.
(plain English explanation)
Everything that is needed to run a discussion forum such as this one is being done by the same server. With many users online at the same time, the server gets bogged down and has a hard time keeping up with the load that it is under. Marshall had plans to put the database (which contains all the members, posts, PM's, etc.) on another server to ease the load; but I don't know what happened to that idea.
