I find extremely interesting that this system has been able to acquire a relatively warm core despite the fact that it is located over relatively cold sea surface temperatures. This according to the FSU Cyclone Phase Analysis.

Right now, the system certainly meets the criteria for subtropical cyclone with it having mostly separated from the frontal system, less surrounding cold stratocumulus clouds than earlier, and relatively moderate convection. This last factor is probably keeping the winds from being much more stronger in the core, than outside of it. Due to the factors I mentioned earlier today, it looks like it will not be operationally classified as it is now beginning to drift northeastward.

If it does get classified (not very likely due to it being over relatively cold waters), it will be a historical formation...

I agree hyperstorm, I think has more to do with these kinds of system with the different temperature. Meaning a cool sea surface can be over rided with a colder Atmosphere. It should be added to the list with what you say.

Hey with any luck we can get Vince and Wilma between this and TD 22.
No harm from either; hopefully; and that much closer to ALPHA!!!

Even with the data showing it as a subtropical cyclone. Don't expect a upgrade intill the research is done.

Lets see if this can close off a eye in get a 4.0t before it starts weaking.

A NEARLY STATIONARY AND NON-TROPICAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM IS LOCATED
ABOUT MIDWAY BETWEEN THE AZORES AND THE CANARY ISLANDS. THIS
SYSTEM IS EMBEDDED WITHIN AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH AND IS OVER
RELATIVELY COLD SEA SURFACE TEMPERATURES. HOWEVER... IT WILL BE
MONITORED FOR SIGNS OF ACQUIRING MORE TROPICAL CHARACTERISTICS
BEFORE IT MOVES NORTHEASTWARD TOWARD EVEN COLDER WATERS DURING THE
NEXT DAY OR TWO.

10:30 PM TWO.

It seems the NHC are reluctant to upgrade this system.

Tropical cylcones are not based on looks alone. There are many other factors involved.

Fsu models showing it has a warm core.
Quickscats showing it has a tight wind core.
Trmm/85H/85V data showing a closed eyewall with eye.
Visible eye on satellite.
Banding
Sab t number 3.0st.

Yeah tell me its not a tropical cyclone. Kind of reminds me of the Mets down in south America when the south Atlatnic hurricane hit them. They where saying how that was extratropical. We all know thats not true. In its not true in this case.
