Q, U, X, Y Z?
It seems to me with the alphas looming that the NHC could at least attempt a few names using the letters QUXYZ.
What about Quincy, Uma, Ursula, Xavier, Yasimin, Yolanda, Zoey, Zachary, Zebediah?
I suppose if any of them are retired it could be an issue because there aren't many choices. For that reason, Q and X aren't good choices, but I'd think at least there should be enough U, Y and Z names for them to be included in the list.

I agree, especially since we seldom (at least in the past) ever get to those names. And if we do, they would often be minimal or hybrid-type storms. So the chances of retirement would be limited.

Maybe it's because there aren't enough male and female names for each of these letters, so it would be a problem because they alternate m/f with each letter.
I always thought the M/F rotation to be kind of silly. I think they should just computer generate a list from a pool of possibilities. I also don't get the idea of repeating names so often when there are other choices available.
And then I step back and think about how ridiculous this entire subject is and I laugh at myself for analyzing such unimportant stuff.

Look at the two R storms that have occured. Both are gone from the lists. I think that the best choice would be just pumping out random names from a pool in no particular order whatsoever.

Rita would not have been Quincy, Quincy is a boy's name and since names are rotated between Male nad Female the Q name would have needed to be feminine since the P storm was Philippe (also a masculine name). Would have also made the R storm have a boy's name instead of a girl's name.

ok yes sorry I was wrong there. My point though is that the name would have been a Q name which are hard to replace

Good luck coming up with a feminine Q name, the only other name I can think of that starts with Q is Quinn, also a boy's name.
