THE POINT IS English people are named "Rita" too. It's not about the original background of the name. :p

Rita Cosby.

Is Cosby her maiden name, or did she marry someone whose last name is Cosby? If it's her birth name, then what's her mother's maiden name?

I asked that because a previous poster said that Rita was an English name and used Rita Cosby as an example. Rita is short for Margarita, the Spanish form of Margaret. My point is with a woman, if she's married, and follows the tradition of changing her last name to that of her husband, you cannot tell her ethnicity just by looking at her surname

:?:

Question about retiring names~~

When and who decides what names will retire, and when will we find out the new replacement names?

The WMO (World Meteorological Organization). I believe nations can request that certain names get retired, but the WMO has the final say.

The World Meteorological Organization decides who retires names, countries affected can request the retireation (sp?) of a storm also. We should know which names are retired by the beginning of the next hurricane season, but IMO chances are that Dennis, Emily, Katrina, Rita, and Stan will ALL be retired, which would be a record for the most storms retired in one year (5).

Katrina, Rita and Stan are pretty much gone. Dennis is almost a sure thing that he'll be retired... and Emily will be retired for its double major landfall and the damage in Grenada.

I'm not totally sure, but it might sound a little too much like Alicia from '83.
