I too only have one choice. I have slept on the same side (except for an occasional night in the family room doghouse) of the bed for some 34 years now.

And since I'm the morning person, the best thing I can do is get up and escape the room entirely before the sun comes up. I generally get up with a smile at 4:45 all 7 days...and today was no different.

However, it's a known fact that after 9 pm I can fail to take in oxygen or have a pulse. The only questions I can be legally responsible for at that hour must have an answer of no more than three letters.

In answer to the question, I did get up on the right side again today. Getting up on the wrong side would mean approaching the likes of an angry grizzly first.

LOL Steve... That is my situation as well!

I find it really strange how in general couples pick one side of the bed and it stays that way for years! Even when we haved moved house, I always end up on the right side of the bed and my hubby takes the left. I just feel odd if I sleep on the left side of a bed. Humans are very odd creatures of habit.

My daughter always gets up on the wrong side of the bed, no matter what side she sleeps on. Every weekend when I can sleep in after 6 am, I get woken up by her griping and screeching at grandson because he will not let her sleep.

He can't just go and watch Sat. AM cartoons on lowest volume possible for his ears...and you and your daughter's ears, too?

No he will not sit down and watch cartoons. He is a very hyper active kid always into something he is not supposed to be messing with. There is no telling how many things that have been destroyed by him since he is very destrutive also. Daughter has bought two DVD players that hook up to a TV. He has ruined both of them by knocking them to the floor. I would like to have some peace and quiet at home but I will not get any as long as he is up. I have to leave and go on vacation to get peace and quiet.

This kind of behaviour is very common in today's society. I have heard of a lot of sucess stories from friends of mine who have managed hyperactivity and destructive behavior with removing sugar from the diet as well as most refiened foods. Of course having a strict routine seems to help as well. Sorry for hijacking this thread, it is just that I really feel for you.

I would remove sugar from his diet if my daughter would do it also. But she will not. She will only drink soda and he will drink what she leaves in a cup sitting after she leaves for work. If I see the cup left sitting before he does, I pour it down the drain. But she will buy him junk food and sodas when they are off somewhere together. I would love to have a stricter diet for him but she will not cooperate with me.

Funny, but there are no babies in this house anymore.....but I still need that bathroom occasionally.....LOL

PS - we do this on vacation too, "Mary, you take that side..."! Honest.

Mary, again, are you sure you don't live in my house???? No matter where we go, I get the direct line to the bathroom. (if I don't need the light I won't wake him up!)

I also am one of the early risers, I enjoy the peace of the morning before everyone else is awake. It is not the same as when they are at school or work. I know the phone won't be ringing and I don't feel that I should be doing something all the time. It is the one time of day when I can relax and not feel guilty about it.

It must be very tough on you. It sounds like they live with you on a permenant basis? I had a friend who was in a similar situation as you are in. She eventually had to put her foot down because her grand-daughter was destroying her house, and in fact destroying her grand-daughter because the child could not cope when someone said No to her.

Fortunately for me, my mom pointed out to me when my son was a few months old some of the things I was doing were not going to help my son, or me in the future. Such as just letting him have that cup of soda because he cried so much. It was a short term quick fix just to get him to be quiet. At first I would get annoyed with my mom for "butting in", but now I really thank her for doing so.
I give my kids a fun night once a week. I let my son decide (if he has behaved himself the past week) if he wants to go to Mc D's or get an ice-cream or something, thats his reward and he really tries hard to do his chores and keep his attitude in check otherwise he knows there is no treat night. This is a stead fast rule, a learning tool that there are consequences for behaviour and choices. As far as soda goes, I actually STOPPED bying it altogether. Again, I allow it if he is at a party, or if my hubby buys a bottle then it is ONE glass and that is it. Of course that one glass is way way before bed time. My daughter is only 18 months and she has NEVER had soda. She has juice very watered down.

Just from doing research and hearing stories from people I really do believe that today's society feed children absolute junk. I know I am guilty as well, but I am really trying to change our eating habits. I think this extends to adults as well. I think our bodies get to much refined and processed food. I think it effects our immune systems and even our sleep patterns. Even "fresh" chicken has been injected with sodium, dont even get me started on the colorants in cheese and yoghurt

I really do pray your daughter sets some boundries for your grand-son, because she is not doing him any long term favors. I know it is difficult being a mom and being tired and over worked and then come home to a demanding child. Sometimes it just seems so much easier to give in. I learnt if you keep giving in there will come a time when the child will just not obey any authorotive figure because they figure thats just how life is, there are no real boundries.
~Blessings to you and yours~

Bronwyn,
I do not buy soda for her or him. Yes they live with my husband and I. She is divroved and has custody of the kid. She works odd hours and can not afford to find a place of her own. In the near future she may have to find a place though, since my husband's job is closing for good and we do not know if we will be able to keep making the house payment .

Dawn I pray the Lord will work on this situation for you. It must be very difficult for you. Hang in there.

Yep, sure sounds like we are long lost twins at times.....LOL

You mentioned the light....question, do you know the exact way to the bathroom, so much so that you can do it in the dark (so as not to wake up your husband)? I swear if I just turn on the bathroom light, close the door 75% but leaving enough light so I can get clothes from my dresser in the morning, I hear - turn off the light, turn off the light! But if I turn in early, and he stays up to watch Letterman, guess who cannot walk around in the dark? These are the little habits that are very trying for couples!!! We've just gotten into a rut. As you know we have a water bed, well, it has not been moved for about 14 years. Drained a few times, but never moved. Now I'd like to angle it but I know it has to stay in the same place pretty much, because other wise it would block the main walkway to the bathroom/closet. Can I even get my husband to consider moving it? Just turning it slightly, on an angle? No, I have to hear why again do you want to move it? LOL

Men!!!! But I am serious about vacations. Even the kids wonder why we take the bed near the bathroom. LOL Aww, just you wait kids...someday you'll be in this boat....he he

I ALWAYS get up on the wrong side of the bed. I HATE mornings, and tend to be a night person. Don't speak to me, until I have had two cups of coffee.
