Replacement name suggestions

#1 Postby fasterdisaster » Mon Oct 03, 2005 5:46 pm

Right now, we have 4 names this year that will very likely be retired:
Dennis
Emily
Katrina
Rita

What do you guys think would be some good replacement names?

A few IMO-

Dennis-Derek, Darren, Denzel
Emily-Elizabeth, Eliza, Elise
Katrina-Kelsey(Only other ones I could think of were in some way related to the 2003 list name Kate)
Rita-Rosanne, Rosa

Just a note for others...

Replacement names must be of the same gender and ethnicity of the original name.

Dennis - Dorian
Emily - Elizabeth
Katrina - Kristin (or Katherine, but Kate is on the list already)
Rita - Rosalyn (but that may be too close to Rose which is already on the list) or Rachel (but Rachel isn't associated with Latina like Rita is) so perhaps Raquel

Rita

Based on the origin of the name:
Dennis- Dale, Damon, Darell, Derek, or Dominic (Dennis is English)
Emily- Ebony, Elaine, Eleanor, Elizabeth, or Estelle (English)
Katrina- Kacey, Kelly, Kendra, Kimberly, or Krystal (Katrina is English)
Rita- Ramona, Raquel, Rosalia, or Rosalyn (Spanish)
And if Ophelia is retired (you never know)- Odele, Olympia

Dennis -> Derek, Darien, Don.

Emily -> Elsie, Elise/Eliza.

Katrina -> Kendra/Khendra, Kelly.

Rita -> Raquel, Rocío.

- I don't think Ophelia will be retired, and I sure hope Stan won't deserve retirement (althought it's starting to look like a possible scenario...).

Some of these may already be mentioned. But here are some names I like as replacements.

Dennis: Dale, Darren
Emily: Elise (I don't like very many feminine names that start with E)
Katrina: Kelli, Karrie, Kimberly (my sister's name), Kylie, Karen (I think that one is in use though), or Kathryn
Rita: Rosa, Regina (not sure of the ethnicity there though)

Should there be a need to replace Tammy, I like:
Torrie
Therese
Tricia
Traci
Teri

Edit: more names to replace Katrina, Kyra, Keri

I think they retire too many names now. Personally, I dont think Dennis or Emily should be retired. In about 20 years were going to have names like DeAngleo....

No you can't name a storm Kali. Too much tempting fate. Talk about begging a storm to turn into the category 5 monster that levels both Miami and Houston.

http://www.angelfire.com/va/goddesses/kali.html

Kali (pronounced kah'lee), the Hindu triple Goddess of creation, preservation, and destruction is the animating force of Shiva, the destroyer (lord of the Dance). She is the insatiable hunger of time that births then devours. Skulls, cemeteries, and blood are all associated with her worship. Kali's energy is uncontrollable. After killing two demons, she got drunk on their blood and began dancing on their dead flesh. She danced herself into a frenzy until she realized she almost danced Shiva to death.

Emily-Elena

Hasn't Elena already been retired?

Here's my list:

Dennis - Dustin
Emily - Elora
Katrina - Katherine
Rita - Reesha (that's all I could come up with, sorry if that's not a real name)

I can remember some random Congresswoman complaining about the lack of African American names on the storms lists. You could do something like:

Dante, Donell, Davon
Keisha
Rashida

Rita is Spanish/English, so it could be either one:

Dennis: Daryl
Emily: Eileen
Katrina: Kathleen
Rita: Robin

I remember that... it's bad enough we have names like Gert, Gaston, and Hermine. Ugh.

:lol: That's false. If you want to get really specific, its the diminutive form of Margarita, which is the hispanization of Margherita... the English form is Margaret or something like that.
